Well, at least the praise is deserved; Mitch Daniels is a badass and the best we have to offer in 2012.

So apparently a college student run "Draft Daniels" group is going to air this ad:

http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2011/01/27/mitch-daniels-gets-2012-plug-from-students/

on the Fox affiliate in Des Moines during this weekend's NFL Pro Bowl.  They promise to later air it at some point in NH and Indiana.

That ad seems likely to be ineffective as it  a)has one of the most annoying narrator voices I've ever heard b) lacks the Blockbuster standard in ad-making T-Paw has set.

Yeah, but this is just the low budget mumblecore answer to the big budget Hollywood studio-backed "T-Pawmageddon".

Political advertisements come in several varieties. The scary voice narration about how horrible things will or have happened to you because of the other candidate. The feel good stories from regular (older) folks. The lets talk to the camera about why I'm so awesome and will save America. The stare at the camera for 5 minutes and throw a rock into a lake version. The wacky animation and lists of things involving dancing TVs or a sing along that typically destroys the campaign of the person airing it. And of course the feel good biographical this is who I am and this is what I've done and can do for you as well spot.

I guess this one is the annoying young person with a coffee cup type of add? This is the kind of add that to be most effective is run sparingly and targeted towards specific demographics. Everyone else will find it horribly annoying and those that might be turned on by it will find it very annoying after a very short amount of time.

Boring, inoffensive guy from Indiana flirts with Presidential bid, doesn't interest non-political geeks. I've heard this story before.

It says a lot about the sorry state of the party that more people want Sarah Palin than Mitch Daniels.
And now the next big thing for the base is apparently Michelle Bachman.

But, to be fair, the vast majority of people don't know who Mitch Daniels is -- are they supposed to know every governor of 50 states?

That is a fair point. However, from the viewoint of a Conservative, Mitch Daniels is probably the most exciting Governor in the nation today.

There's lots of notable Republican governors: Nikki Haley, Chris Christie, Rick Perry, Haley Barbour, maybe Christie could be considered more exciting

I think it is too early to compare Nikki Haley to Mitch Daniels or Chris Christie.

But otherwise it is a fair point. But Daniels is probably the most likely of them to run for president in 2012, as both Perry and Christie have made it clear on several occasions that they will serve out their term.

I don't know enough about how Haley Barbour, except that he has ben a very efficient governor. But I think he will be handicapped by the electoral insignificance of his state, and the fact that he in many ways is a very old fashioned southerner.
