I think we should vote on the amendment.  And I'd like to express my disapproval of the amendment since it is basically changing the entire spirit of the bill.

Definitely support taking Reagan's name off the DC airport. Don't care much who you rename it for.
I agree that we should be wary of naming things after living presidents or even recently dead ones unless they have a very large, universally recognized achievement or were assassinated.

It reminds me of Michele Bachmann trying to name the Floyd B Olson Memorial Highway after Ronald Reagan... replacing a well known historical governor of the state with a president that never won the state.

By the way:  Olson was a Farmer-Labor governor who got passed a progressive income tax, unemployment insurance, social security, equal pay for women, and the right to collective bargaining in Minnesota with a majority conservative caucus in the legislature (the MN Leg was non-partisan until 1972).  In 1933, he made the following speech that stoked fear into the hearts of many a Republican:

"I am making a last appeal to the Legislature. If the Senate does not make provision for the sufferers in the State and the Federal Government refuses to aid, I shall invoke the powers I hold and shall declare martial law. ... A lot of people who are now fighting [relief] measures because they happen to possess considerable wealth will be brought in by provost guard and be obliged to give up more than they would now. There is not going to be misery in this State if I can humanly prevent it. . . Unless the Federal and State governments act to insure against recurrence of the present situation, I hope the present system of government goes right down to hell."

Anybody suggesting or proposing amendments to name these airports after themselves or other currently serving Atlasians might as well stop.  Any such change is entirely frivolous and as such I will not allow any such amendment to come to a vote.

I'd like to propose the following amendments:

Airport Renaming Act
1) Reagan International Airport shall henceforth be known as Mondale Colin Wixted International Airport.
2) Dulles International Airport shall henceforth be known as Arbenz Nym90 International Airport.

The following amendment was offered by Senator HappyWarrior, but was not accepted by Bgwah.

Therefore, we shall have a vote on this amendment.

Senators:  Vote aye, nay, or abstain

As I said before, I will reject any amendment that proposes naming the airports after yourself.  Or any other currently sitting official for that matter... so don't try to be creative.

As for Bgwah's amendment:

It has been accepted.  Senators, you have 24 hours to object.

The ayes have it.

With no senators changing their vote, the bill has officially passed and will be submitted to the president for signing.
