Since there are only 435 U.S. Representatives in Congress (I'm sure the 436th "House" elector is for D.C.'s U.S. Representative it would have if it were a state)
It's because the US EC has 436 electors + 2 electors per state/state equivalent. It's also because I dug up the thread after calculating the numbers -  had I been aware that Beef used 435, I'd have calculated that one. I can't tell you right now, but I can go check.

Here's probably a more fair distribution of Minnesota EVs. In this one I simply gave each county 1 "representative" and then distributed the rest proportionally. Before I distributed all the "representatives" by the counties' population, but some counties' rounded to 0, so I gave each one 1 representative and took the seat from another county which just narrowly won its last representative (for example if it was entitled to X.51 representatives it would lose the rounded up one), but this wasn't too proportional and resulted in one county getting 3 EVs despite having 4x the population of another.

I'd calculate it, but I'm taking a nap now. Last night I had to check into a motel at literally 4:30 AM and left around 11.

Two very interesting states for this would be Maryland and Illinois.

Why not just use the actual apportionment method?

Because I'm not sure what that is. I thought it was the first way I did it.

So, 253 to 356 or 357 / 220 to 318. Quite the convincing Republican victory. Shocked

Could someone do this nationally?  If the number of electoral votes were based on counties, with the smallest counties all getting three, and Los Angeles getting 65463516541 votes, it would be cool to see, even though it'd be a huge Republican victory.

There are more counties than seats to distribute, so it can't be done without fixing on a new and massively larger house size first.

Yeah.  I guess an arbitrary number would have to be made.  It would probably have to be at least 10 times the actual number of counties in the United States.

The problem is in the numbers. The larger the number of seats, the better the Democrats do, until, on a national scale, if there were something like 600-620 electoral votes, Kerry would have won in 2004. It goes back and forth thereafter, eventually settling on Bush.

Nice job Beef. Completely pointless, but an outstanding map nonetheless Smiley

For a moment I actually believed that this thread was about the networks calling Wisconsin for Bush/Cheney. That was until I realised that although Wisconsin was close in 2004 that the networks didn't after all call Wisconsin and her 10 Electoral College votes in that particular collum. Silly Mr Flynn.
