Nebraska, PPP. I am taking PPP's word on how the districts go. In 2008, NE-01 voted like Texas, NE-02 voted like Indiana, and NE-03 voted like Wyoming.

Nebraska at large might as well be colored white for a tie for Sarah Palin, and if she fades any at all in nationwide approval but still wins the GOP nomination, then she could lose all but one electoral vote from Nebraska (NE-03 is one of the most GOP-leaning districts in America). I am modifying Texas to show how razor-close the state is if it is Obama vs. Palin.

Good news about NE-2. I can understand why the legislature is considering changing the system of allocating electoral votes, Obama is in the position to peel off that vote again. As for Palin, it's just crazy to see a Republican up by only one in Nebraska.

LOL

I always knew Palin was a really weak candidate, but this is taking it to a whole new level. Who knows, maybe she's Ben Nelson's silver bullet.

I'm glad this poll came out, as it should provide the state legislature with more of a reason to change their system for allocating electoral votes.

Could there be any new splitting states on the horizon, like a couple of the GOP controlled rust belt states?  This is also basically an open invitation for the Maine Democrats to retaliate the next time they get full control (2014 at the earliest).

The new map without pbrower2a's "modifying" of certain states ...

Obama vs. Huckabee

Obama vs. Romney

Obama vs. Gingrich

Obama vs. Palin

If trends continue, Palin will almost certainly trail Obama in South Carolina (Blacks will vote almost 100% for Obama and he'll get a good amount of Whites against her) and also Arizona, but I could see her being in a tie there.

If Palin still runs despite it all, well, I guess I won't be surprised.

Obama lost NE by 15 points in 2008 and that was a very strong showing for a Democratic Presidential candidate there... so wow @ these numbers. I still can't see him winning the overall state against any of them though (even Palin).

I'll say it again: Palin is pathetic. I hope she wins the nomination.

You don't yet fully appreciate how awful Sarah Palin is. I can't think of anyone as bad who draws so much media attention as she as a Democrat, but I figure that a Democrat that bad would project to have a chance of losing California and New York. You might successfully shut her off, but you don't have your elderly parents watching GOP Pravda (FoX Newspeak Channel) with a volume suited to their weakening hearing.

Nebraska may be conservative, but it isn't crazy.

Ahh, thx.

Where can I get a 2012 EV calculator ?

PS: I already tried to switch the number 2008 to 2012 in the image code, but nothing changed. And it is too complicated to switch to 2012 numbers now. If someone wants to create the maps, then OK ... Wink

He won't get nominated, though it would be interesting as an academic question.

Any reason why pbrower and Tender Branson have NE-2 as an Obama district?

Nebraska has a Republican governor and a Republican legislature. It's reasonable to assume that they will redraw the districts so that all 3 would have voted for McCain in 2008. That, or they will just revert to winner-take-all.

Besides, this poll didn't have NE-2 as down for Obama, either.

Sure, Nebraska could be redrawn, but the current map of one Omaha district, one East Nebraska district, and one Central/West Nebraska district is the only logical way to do it

Or they could just make it winner takes all the electoral votes.
