A really crazy idea I just had

Can't possibly be more ridiculous than what we have now...
What if there were a system where only members of a certain party could vote in that party's primaries, but only independent voters could vote in the general election?

what sense does that make?

The number of registered independents would skyrocket as everyone wants to keep their vote and only a small group of diehard ideologues would stay active in party primaries. The result would be general elections between someone like Bernie Sanders or Alan Grayson versus someone like Michelle Bachmann or Herman Cain. Basically, the "lesser of two evils" problem intensified greatly with the disenfranchisement of those remaining in a party, too.

How about this?
Everybdoy has their primaries. Democrats, Republicans and independents. State by state. Open or closed primary states, it wouldn't matter.
If Democrats voted for Hillary, Republicans for Romney and independents for McCain, then these would be the 3 winners and on the ballot.

Our government would probably collapse if this system were ever implemented.

Pretty much a stupid idea.
How about this? We take all the political parties and the Government in it's entirety and
get rid of their sorry asses.
The end.

That's even worse. I'm surprised anyone managed that.
What, exactly, would replace the government and all the services performed by the government?

Yes, let the elitist party machines have even more power over the general election choices.

That is indeed a really crazy idea. And a really bad one. And also a not very interesting one to boot.

Clearly the solution is to privatize presidential elections.
So, in less than four years, get excited for the 2016 MetLife Financial U Pick The Prez Extravaganza. If you tweet a picture of your completed ballot with the hashtag #ivoted, you could win a trip for two to the inauguration or an iTunes gift card.

So you want to create the craziest cluster of strategical voting ever?

No see my answer... This would lead to some hilarious party switching trying to rig the election.

Well at least you have the decency to admit it's a crazy idea.
