Three principles upon which the Union of the Democratic Left must be run:

1. Unity of action. Inter-party squabbling has made it clear that the Union of the Democratic Left must be run along democratic centralist lines. Intra-party discussion should be free, open, public, and encouraged, but once a decision is made, all party members must adhere to said decision. As the Union of the Democratic Left is, unlike other successful Atlasian parties, not a personalist party, allegiance to the will of the party membership must replace allegiance to the will of the party leader.
2. Mutual respect. The Union of the Democratic Left is founded upon the idea that the will of the people is worthy of consideration. To that end, all members must treat each other with respect. Slander and open hostility toward fellow members will not be tolerated.
3. Party goals above personal ambition. The party membership shall through open discussion decide to nominate the candidates it sees fit. All party members must accept the will of the membership. In keeping with this principle, and noting the failures of this present campaign, in the future no party candidate save the incumbent will be allowed to declare for President prior to being nominated by the party at the convention. The party membership will select the best candidate without outside tampering.

I would like to announce that considering my responsibilities as Speaker of the Northeast Assembly, and with my current campaign to be the first UDL Governor of the Northeast - I will not be seeking the endorsement of the Executive Council to continue on as Chair of this party.

I've had a rollercoaster ride in this position, and I deeply thank those who have been supportive of me.

I believe in advocating for new blood in leadership positions, I believe that there are any number of UDL members who have the enthusiasm and drive that this the position requires, and the party needs.

I'm not going anywhere, and will be here to provide any advice or guidance that may be required of me.

I will remain Chair until the new Executive Council appoints my successor.

You know, I think I speak for the entire council-elect when I encourage those with an interest in the chairmanship to speak out and not feel restrained by modesty or a lack of confidence.

In order to wrap the convention up, we need to elect the President, and the EC need to appoint the new Chair.

I would like to appeal to the UDL for their endorsement in the Northeast Senate race. Those who know me know I have no problem reaching across the aisle in the name of pragmatism or sanity in some cases. I think having me in the Senate rather than my opponent is more advantageous to you and your cause.

Thank you very much.

Agreed.

Is there really noone who wants the presidency? People, we're talking about a job which had its standard for activity set by a guy who disappeared a week after winning his election. It's not a lot of work.

Greetings members of the Union of the Democratic Left,

I am here today to ask for your endorsement of my candidacy for Northeast Senate. I would be a far more active Senator than Rowan would, and I also share some core beliefs with your party. For instance, I am very socially liberal, I am pro-choice, pro-gay marriage and I support protectionism and environmentalism. I humbly ask that you acknowledge that I'd be a better Senator than Rowan and ask for your endorsement. I bring to the table a characteristic that Rowan simply can't match and that is my enthusiasm and want and desire to create a stronger Atlasia. I hope that I may be honoured by your endorsement.

Many thanks,

-Jake Matthews

While I admire Jake's enthusiasm, I think he needs some more time to get the hang of how things work around here.

So, I would argue in favour of Rowan, as I hope he will be more active than when he was last in the Senate.

Hey y'all,

I'm coming to the aid of Rowan and asking you all to consider endorsing him for the NE senate race. He didn't ask me to pester you all, but this is something important to me if you're struggling with the decision. He's always been a sane voice in a region with plenty of voices. I'm confident he'll represent the region with pragmatism and sane governing....just as I do. Wink

And this is no disrespect to Jake. I think he'll benefit from some experience elsewhere before jumping into the senate.

Same here. I look forward to working with Jake in the assembly but I will be voting for Rowan for Senate.

The nominations and appointment of a Chair should be done separately by the new EC in the existing EC thread.

We are now moving to the position of party president, in the absence of Dr Cynic's re-nomination, I have put my name up for consideration for this position.

We will have a vote on this matter shortly.

So the UDL can't find a candidate for the NE either, huh? You guys should guilt Polnut into switching from Governor to Senate... Tongue

What about Earl? Is he still around? Tongue

I'm trying to guilt Eraser to stay in, but I doubt I'll be successful. Sad
