Again, I'm not really sure if posting twice in the thread is against the rules or not, but just in case and so that Franzl can do his job properly I took a screenshot before JM deleted his post: http://i.imgur.com/C55V0.png

Has Jake Matthews invalidated his vote by posting twice?

No, there's nothing in the Consolidated Electoral System Reform Act which says posting twice is illegal. Indeed, consider section 1, clause 7; "If a voter shall explicitly cast a vote in a Senate race for which they are not qualified to vote, then the vote in that Senate race shall be considered non-extant, and the voter may post a new vote in the correct Senate race if applicable." which indicates that it would in fact be allowed to make one post to vote for President and another to vote for Senate!  Since JM obviously did not vote twice, there is no reason to discount his vote.  Really disgusting that the left is trying to steal this election.

My post was just an esoteric way of saying that tradition, to my knowledge, has been to not interpret the quoting of a previous vote to ask for or suggest clarification as a second vote.

If it was an IDS booth, he would be screwed but my instincts tell me that as long as it isn't "campaigning" then Jake is fine.

Basically, click on the thread, vote, confirm it went in once (not twice if the computer jammed or whatever), and the get the hell out of the thread. That is my philosphy regarding voting booths. Or it atleast it was till I had to start tracking voter turnout for the party. Tongue

I seem to recall (I think Hawkeye59) posting twice in the June voting booth, without facing any consequences.

I appreciate your help (really, it's good for events like this to be documented).

That said, it is my opinion that the simple act of posting twice in a voting booth does not affect the validity of that person's actual vote. Indeed, the law recognizes legitimate purposes for making more than one post (such as if you vote in the wrong region for Senate). This isn't thd case here, but it shows that posting twice is not something forbidden by law.

Add to that that the precedence seems to be on Jake Matthews side.

The Dept. of Federal Elections intends to count the vote.

While booth is not place for any kind of comments, I fail to see how can it invalidate vote if you didn't modify it after 20 minutes/deleted and reposted/posted again.

It's not a big deal, IMO.

The first preferences have all been counted. Transfers still to follow.

Expect certification for President in less than 30 minutes (I hope), and the Senate races slightly later.

And a final note:

Congratulations to everyone that participated in this election, whether you won or lost. I enjoyed running this election! It's always excellent to see Atlasians participating in our democratic system, and it's great to be a part of it.

Considering how close some of the races were (especially in my own region where one voter could have potentially changed the outcome), it is visible once again how important each and every individual voter is. Keep that in mind in the future, and make sure your voice is heard!

Was ECR actually a valid voter? I didn't think he had enough posts, regardless of the ban.
