Very. If anything Tom Salmon should run against Shumlin seeing that he will be vulnerable as a first-termer.

The only way he wouldn't be safe is if he lost the Democratic primary, and I strongly doubt Welch or Shumlin would run against him.

Once Sander's closet socialist agenda is revealed he won't stand a chance in hell of being re-elected.

If Sanders isn't safe, the Democrats might as well give up and go home.

Sanders will never really ever be safe. There is a big difference between a Democrat running against him, and a well funded, and SUPPORTED Democrat running against him. If Welch was stupid enough to run against him, it could make things difficult.

Sanders' strength, even when Vermont was a tad different, has always been partially because his constituency services are unparalleled.  Or at least that's what the natives have told me.

He also does a lot of town halls, and is not afraid like most Congresspersons, to take hostile questions from the folks. (The panic and fear in the eyes of my local assemblywoman when I went after her, was a sight to behold; I tend to doubt she will be hosting any more open meetings with the voters.) Back and forth repartee with the folks by politicians these days is just so yesterday, particularly with all all those tiny electronic devices recording and videoing everything, so any misstep gets up on Youtube to be seen by millions within hours.

He's safe for now. Unless a billionaire democrat comes from nowhere and spends like Bloomberg. Then Sanders is screwed.

But that's unlikely so Sanders wins big.

Nope, that happened in 2006: a rich Republican named Richard Tarrant ran against him when the seat opened up; Tarrant spent $7 million of his own money and lost by 30 points.

Yea.  Just as important, if there's a problem locally that needs fixing and you call his office, he'll be there personally to fix it.  In the same vein, he's been to about every little dipsh!t town in Vermont and met with each resident, not just the NY transplants, which is a big deal up there.  Or so I've discovered from each real Vermonter I've talked to about it.

But he probably understands all this from his days as mayor of Burlington.
