Interesting. I guess it must have been around 1988 when Democrats started winning the Rte. 128 corridor (Lexington, Concord, Acton, etc.)

Also, check out some of those Carter/McCain towns. Carter broke 60% in Dracut, which McCain (narrowly) carried.

FDR winning Washington? Strange.

He only carried it by 2 votes. (41-43)

I think you could improve that 1964 map by using more distinct colors. I know you want to make them all blue-ish, but changing the colors to red-blue-yellow-green would make the map clearer.

Here's a contribution of mine to your thread, Dallasfan. 2010 Congressional elections aggregate and by individual district.

Found an old map Al made in an old thread.

A close election, but Weld won Cambridge and P-town!

Compare it with 94!

No Silber/Roosevelt towns, it seems.

Also, Silber is from Boston and was President of Boston University until '89. Would Weld have won it against a different Democrat?

No, probably not against any other Democrat. Silber was damned conservative by MA Dem standards. A real A-hole. Here's a taste:

In 2002, Silber ordered that a B.U.-affiliated high school academy disband its gay-straight alliance, a student club that staged demonstrations to publicize the deleterious effects of homophobia. Silber dismissed the stated purpose of the club -- to serve as a support group for gay students and to promote tolerance and understanding between gay and straight students -- accusing the club of being a vehicle for "homosexual recruitment." Silber denounced the group for "evangelism" and "homosexual militancy" with the purpose of promoting gay sex.[15]

This is in freakin 2002!! You can only imagine how he was 20 years earlier. Constantly flew off the handle at the press, etc.

This was one race I was more then glad to see the Republican win, and would've voted for Weld if I lived in MA.

How did the Silber towns break in 2008 (both primary and general)?

Looks like Hillary won all Silber towns except Boston, Monterey, and Somerville (Boston and Somerville were both won by Obama by only 5 points).

In the general Obama won all Silber towns except Millville, Northbridge, and Uxbridge (which were all very narrow victories for McCain).

nice!  I think it's interesting to compare with hc's 2008 map:
Goldwater's wins in NH were more widespread across the state than McCain, but still quite a but less overall.  I do know that Vt actually had Obama do better than LBJ, and this would be neat to see if the data is available.

@shua, sadly I do not have Vermont data going back that early. Which is a shame, since it'd be one of my favorites to do. Sad
