Hi all,
I think I'm going to check out of the forum at this point. I think it's a great forum and it's been fun talking with you all.
I have emailed the admins a couple of times for help with this, and get no reply. Could someone please kindly tell me how I go about deleting my account? I don't have an "Actions" pane on my profile window and so can't see the "delete my account" option. So, if someone could help me with the right instructions, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
Best wishes to all.
This is disappointing......I enjoy reading your postings.......first rate for sure.
Best regards,

This is the Hotel California of forums: you can check out if you like, but you can never leave.

PIT and jmf,
Ah, ok. Well, Dave does work hard enough at this for sure, so we'll let him be. He runs a really fantastic forum, so I thank him for all his excellent efforts. BTW, jmf, despite our disagreements during my time here, I've always avidly read your posts and do appreciate your perspective; keep up the good work.
Gramps,
Many thanks! I've always enjoyed reading your posts too, both for their insight and humor. My posts might have been "first"-rate for their sheer length, but for their pith, not so much. Take good care.
Cheers to all

Well, it's only been a couple days since I've been absent and you probably haven't even noticed, but those few days have been some of the most drastically impactful days of my life. Since graduating I've gone through quite a rapid (and admittedly unstable) personal transformation and it has accelerated at an insane rate since my recent absence first started. Long story short, my life has turned completely upside-down since the end of the year and my increasingly more clear perspective on myself has led me to the definite decision to leave the forum. Unlike my last hiatus, I'm honestly pretty sure this is it. Shet's been really rough and really...real lately and it's been almost like rehab. A big time reality check, easily the biggest in my life so far. Just wanted to tell you guys because just like I said before, this place has meant a lot to me and I've definitely learned a lot from all of you. But if being back has taught me anything it's that it's beyond time for me to move on regardless of how much I'll miss it. I'll try to update you guys most likely through Gramps, BK, Duke or the other guys I actually talk to. I wish nothing but the best for all of you and will definitely be thinking of you often, but this place is just not in my cards at this point and I will
actually
probably not be back. Thank you so much for making this such a great place, guys. I mean that.

I don't understand why a person would leave if they like it here. And the reverse is true too, why would a person stay that hates it?
Is "attention" the answer to both?

Their function is to hang around and be constantly useful as a goad. The ultimate aim is not such humane small potatoes as repatriating refugees.

Despite the massive impact the post-graduation funk has had on me, even that has been put into perspective by what's been going on lately. I'd rather not get into the specifics, but work has been the last thing on my mind. In fact I quit my job and likely won't be getting another for some time.
Leaving has a lot more to do with the opportunity cost of being here and the prioritizing of this general kind of time use than it does with the forum itself. The decision was not "oh, I gotta leave the forum", this was more of a side-effect of things changing. I'm aware that updating this thread will likely result in more eye-rolls than actual care, but I'd rather not leave those who do care hanging. I'm fine with bothering people with a stupid thread like this because I know that won't last compared to the little mutual respect the few have for me.

I hope you can get back on your feet and make things work. I definitely know what the post college funk is like... and I can tell you things will only be as good as you make them. Set realistic goals and achieve them and yada yada yada.
I wish you the best and hope you do break your promise and come back.

Fezzy, you remind me a lot of myself. After awhile of hiatus, you begin to manage your time to the point where you can fit this place into your daily routine; even begrugingly so. We live in such a digital world that it's pointless to disconnect. Could be worse, you could be addicted to a sh**t website like Tumblr.
If you haven't already, I recommend taking a minimum wage job for awhile, just to taste life as a drone with little responsbility or expectation.
PS, congratulations on scoring with a hot girl out of your league on NYE. The weightlifting and soulsearching through drug experimentation really paid off. Too bad your fall semester grades and/or hasty attempt to write a novel or start a business hadn't turned out as you'd hoped.
Cheers,
King

Gosh, Fezzy, you seem awfully hard on yourself. Life has its disappointments of course. The trick is to learn from them, and keep focused on fashioning some sort of meaningful life for yourself which brings you some measure of contentment. Good luck, and PM me anytime, if you ever feel the need to get an old man's perspective on something.

Speaking from one who has had "reality" pull him away from the Atlas, I fully appreciate the absence. I hope that whatever is upsetting your lifes' plans right now are merely the foundation for an eventually good 2012. Lift your head up and keep your eyes on the prize.
You'll be in my thoughts.

I am already on a semi hiatus. When my girlfriend and I broke up, things really got pushed into my face. I realized I need to stop being so complacent and go out and do some things with my life besides studying law, which will still be my top priority, but actually socialize. I found myself avoiding all social aspects of law school to keep my relationship with her going, and I lost my way. We broke up because she felt we both would be better off with some time alone and being single to reassess our lives.
Needless to say, I haven't been a happy guy recently. I've been drinking more, exercising more and generally sleeping far too much. We are on this no contact deal for another two weeks and then we will see where we are, but I doubt we will reconcile in the near future. We were best friends though, being together for nearly 2 years, so it really feels like I lost my closest ally. I know I need to be a man and grow a pair, but I guess I am just hurting. Being out of college sucks even more because you no longer are surrounded by your closest friends to help you through the tough times, and all you think there is to do is work and drinking. I am in a bad place right now too because I am going to law school near by home, but all my old friends are neither still in college or have moved elsewhere. It, for me, is like I am starting completely over with all my friends spread all over the country. Losing the love of my life due to "wanting to be single and focus on my college at the moment" sucks even more. And instead of sabotaging my relationship, I just let her go and agreed to a month of no talking. In the past, I tend to just ruin things so there is no chance of reconciliation. It just sucks.

Dude, I know exactly how you feel. I had that bad breakup back in May, and I dont think I showed my face around here for months. You don't have to man up yet.. you just gotta take care of yourself, figure out what you are going to do, than start to move on slowly. It's going to take a while, but after time you start to feel a little bit better. The pain is still there, but it isnt as bad. But in that time, all the small things dont matter. This place becomes the least of your worries.

Duke, the law will be your wife and life for awhile, as it were. It is a demanding mistress. But you will find as time goes on, that it will be easier and easier to find time to feed your soul. There is nothing like first year law school though. At least where I went, the Paper Chase was a reasonably accurate rendition. In fact, the classrooms looked just like the one in the movie, and I had a tax prof who was a
lot
like Kinksfield.
Oh, and interviewing at law firms was more akin to going out on a date than anything else. It was quite an adventure.
