Compared to other elections (statewide), it is amazing to me how fast Chicago's votes were tallied.

So basically Chicago is a one-party city? Even New York has a functioning two party system.

New York is unusual, not the norm, among large cities. And New York also does not have a two-party system; rather, it has one party (the Democratic Party) and the occasional independent who sometimes carries the Republican Party label. Look at the City Council.

Even so, most if not all large cities still typically have competitive elections, either in the Democratic primary or in free-for-all general elections.

Woo, results by precinct (from SSP):

Rahm - blue
Chico - red
Del Valle - orange
tie - grey
Braun - green, but she only won one precinct, and I don't see it anywhere. Edit: Oh, there it is, on the right edge of the big red mid-city block.

The area enclosed by the dashed line is Rahm's old district.

Not at all. The Republican candidate won last night with a majority of the vote.

What is the area where the vote is split (below Rahm's old district)?

Don't know the name of the area, but that's the northern muff on the earmuffs Hispanic district. Presumably Del Valle is from there.

Hard to tell exactly, but it looks like the Humboldt Park/Logan Square/Hermosa Park area, which is heavily Latino.

If the area behind Midway Airport is still where many of Chicago's government employees live, it appears they broke heavily for Chico.

I believe Chico is Lithuanian on his mom's side.  Don't know if he did better in any of the more Lithuanian areas than other white parts of town.

Indeed, and Rahm raised what, $11 million?  If there had been a centrist Republican who spent what Bloomberg did two years ago (~$200m, >$110m on the books), maybe Chicago would have been competitive as well.
