HELENA — The Gazette State poll was conducted March 14-16 by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research Inc. of Washington, D.C., for The Billings Gazette, Montana Standard of Butte, Helena Independent Record, Missoulian and Ravalli Republic.

A total of 625 registered Montana voters were interviewed statewide by telephone. All said they regularly vote in state elections.

Pollsters interviewed 320 women for 51 percent of the sample and 305 men for 49 percent.

The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points. The margin of error is higher for any subgroup such as a gender sampling.

Those interviewed were selected by random variation of the last four digits of telephone numbers. A cross section of telephone exchanges was used to ensure an accurate reflection of the state. Quotas were assigned to reflect the turnout by county.

Wow, the race is a real toss up. I hope Tester wins, obviously, but he'll have to work really hard.

A one-point lead is not exactly "ahead".

Well, one point is better than no lead at all and his lead with independents is decent.

He was never dead in the first place.

He was never dead in the first place.

You obviously don't follow George's sharp political commentary:

It looks like VA,MT,ND,and NEB is gone. The best the Dems can do is go for a power sharing agreement with the GOP by winning the Scott Brown race in MA.

(Context: this was in reference to a poll showing a whopping 3-point lead for Rehberg.)
