Agreed. Though for my first act as chairman I propose that the council ditch the rule that prevents a member of the council from casting a deciding vote in favour of himself, for obvious reasons. Also, does anyone feel like taking my place on the council?

For the record, I am strongly leaning toward running for a second term in April. As Ernest is also running, we already have 2 candidates. So we don't need any more candidate. Actually I think we must keep things that way to maximize our chances of success.

2 candidates seems like a good number to me too. And I suppose you as an incumbent should be automatically one of those, but if anyone else would like to run, I feel we can't get away with not giving them the opportunity: anyone up for a primary?

Unless we get more than 3 potential candidates, I doubt that we should worry about limiting the number of candidates.  In the special election just concluded, even though Sewer ended up being a weak candidate at the polls, he didn't end up hurting either me or TexasGurl.  His votes transferred just fine.  If we do have a primary, may I suggest we simply poll the membership for whether they approve of each candidate who wants to run and only run the candidates who get the approval of a majority of those members who express an opinion?

In any case, if we do have a UDL primary, then I pledge to abide by the results.

Actually, transfers hurt us very badly this time again, if you have a look at the numbers.

We can't be a serious party and run election as we did last 3 times. Either it's two candidates, or we can already disband the party.

Not really.  We had a total of 21 first preferences for UDL candidates.  In theory, that should have been enough to just barely secure one of the three seats, since the quota was 21, but that assumes that had any only two of our three candidates run, the UDL would still have gotten 21 first preferences.  Both TexasGurl and me received significant non-UDL support from voters who voted not on the basis of party, but on the basis of candidate.

I agree with Ernest that 3 candidates seems like a good number and that we can probably take that. It still would be better if we only ran 2 candidates though. Let's hope Ernest and Antonio are the only ones with an interest in running Smiley

The point is : why running 3 candidates if we perfectly know that winning 2 seats would be our best possible scenario ?

Sorry for intruding, but I sincerely doubt any party, whenever it's UDL, JCP, RPP or the Populares, can win more than two al-large seat, and it's best solution to fill no more than two, to avoid repeat of December.

Just my friendly advice.

That's true, but 3 candidates does have some benefits. We can't know which candidates will have most traction outside of the party. With 3 ccandidates we optimalize our chances of picking such a candidate.

So who wants to run for Senate for our party? Antonio and Ernest, correct? Has anyone else expressed interest? Would TG like to run again?

If you are referring to me, I did not "go nuts"- I merely asked a question, which you answered, then I shut up.  Do not lump me together with my former running mate- while I do consider him a friend, I take no responsibility for his actions.

So let's have a vote on this:

In the Upcoming At-Large Senate Elections the UDL shall run:

[] 2 candidates
[] 3 candidates

These candidates shall be determined as follows:

[] Incumbent + winner(s) of a primary
[] Winners of a primary
[] Let's first see whether there are more people interested than we wish to run.
