...Of whether you agree with their overall sentiment? I find it happens more and more. I'll start:

"The problem with socialism is eventually you run out of other people's money."

"Adult time for an adult crime" is one that I just can't stand.

Or one I hate even more: "Guns don't kill people. People kill people".

"Trust, but verify" is getting up there for me.

Any sort of "Liberal at 20, conservative at 30" line, especially the mangled one misattributed to Winston Churchill (who not only never said that, but was a Conservative at 20, a Liberal at 30, and a Conservative again at 50).

Any line that communicates indignation on the part of the speaker. Having a stroke over folks getting tortured in Gitmo won't stop it any sooner.

Oh god. What a barbarous sentiment. And then the same people claim a 16year old can't legally consent to having sex. It boggles the mind.

That one is easily remedied by a simple amendation. "Guns don't kill people. I kill people." (I did once see a guy wearing a t-shirt that proclaimed "People like me are the reason people like me own guns". I swear this is true.)

"Freedom isn't Free."
"Sometimes you have to give up a little bit of freedom to gain security."
"Only wrongdoers have to be worried about their privacy being violated."

And these same people say crap like this:

"From my cold dead fingers."
"A society of unarmed men is a society of slaves."

Hypocritical much?

That Barry Goldwater one about extremism in the defense of liberty is the most obvious example.

The Ben Franklin one about giving up liberty for security is kind of a special case, it was pretty valid during the Bush years with the PATRIOT Act and all but got overused to the point of losing all meaning with the way it is now with the teabaggers using it against every single thing Obama does and people who whined crazy about the TSA.

Mecha, this is supposed to be things you agree with...

Anyways, mine would probably be that the sloganeering of the Ron Paul people gets tiresome after a while ("Freedom is popular!").

Ahem......

...Of whether you agree with their overall sentiment? I find it happens more and more. I'll start:

"The problem with socialism is eventually you run out of other people's money."

Emphasis on the bolded.
If he wanted us to list solely quotes that are so overused he hate them even though we agree with them he would've titled it:

"Are there quotes that are so trite/overused that you hate them even though you agree with them."

I was under the impression that that line in its original form was uttered by François Guizot.

Don't really know myself, but I agree with most of what was said there.

"Support our troops" used effectively by W to dodge all criticism on the war. The man hid behind the very soldiers he elected to send into dangerous situation. What a piece of work!

"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing" and the scores of variations on the theme.

A pseudo-quote that has never actually been attributed to Burke... There's a good essay about it (with a link at the bottom to the author's follow-up essay).

Indeed. We all have to chip in our $1.99.

"A hand up, not a hand out" has come to mean "A fist in your face, not a hand up".
