Didn't Edwards lose his own county?

Kerry lost Edwards' home county (Wake, NC), yes.

In case you've forgotton, John Kerry was the Democratic Nominee for President this year.

I was going to write more, but it struck me that that would be a waste of time.

Well that didn't stop all the talk in July about a possible Dem pickup of Virginia and North Carolina now did it?

No it didn't.

Which is beside the point (and I'm not going to get involved in a pointless flame war over Wake County, NC)

I'm not going to get into an argument about Wake County, either. Your point was that Kerry prevented a Dem victory in the county. However, weren't some members (I'm guessing you were one of them) saying that Edwards would provide a boost to the ticket that could help pickup VA and NC regardless of who was on the top of the ticket?

I did not say that

The polls in the spring and early summer showed NC and VA as close (Mason-Dixon included).
Both sides made predictions that at the time seemed sane but look weird now.

Look... Kerry was the Democratic nominee, not Edwards.
I could also point out that Kerry lost... let's see... Sam Rayburn's home county.

Yeah, ok. I understand that. At first you said that you didn't say that and didn't mean it that way. I was confused.

[sarcasm]

No, Cheney lost it. That just proves how much Cheney sucks, he couldn't even win his own home county!

[/sarcasm]

Both Bush and Kerry lost the states in which they were born. (Bush-Connecticut, Kerry, Colorado) I wonder when the last time that happened, the two major party candidates both losing their birth states?

Its not like Teton county went for Kerry because all the rural American ranchers/farmers wanted him. Its because Teton county is a very liberal area of the state that has ski resorts and wealthy non-natives.

who cares? Their votes are just as valid as rural farmers and ranchers.

Anyway neither Cheney or Edwards lost their home counties, Kerry lost Edwards' home county and Bush lost Cheney's home county.

Well the people of Teton County sold their home off as a tourist attraction and retirement area, so whats your point?

Teton County was a flip from 2000. I doubt things changed massively in 4 years. Cheneymania ended. Ski resorts in Wyoming aren't massively liberal, but it doesn't matter. It's what the county went.

Of course their votes are valid. That's not my point. My point is you can't use counties out west like that as an indicator of some big shift in the demographics of the western states.
