I don't have much time for jmfcst's religious views.... I don't like moral absolutism from anyone...

But when not talking about religion he usually has some interesting things to say... so I wouldn't support attempts to remove him.

Does this thread count as an "attempt"?  He himself is the one who bumped it up to the top of the board when the last post was over 20 days old.

And the person who made the thread has been banned.

He was making one of his movie jokes based on the fact that Svensson was banned while he's still around.

I maintain that a forum on American politics benefits from having at least one evangelical Republican as a member. It provides perspective.

It boggles the mind that people consider it reasonable or acceptable to advocate banning of jmfcst.  How is the man 'trolling'?  He's presenting his honest political positons and opinions - just as I do.  To call such positions 'trolling' is just to disallow certain opinions.  Svensson should be banned for this trolling thread.

Except for the last line, I agree with Opebo.

It demonstrates clearly why both Opebo and jmfcst both haven't grasped why some of their posts have been moderated. They believe they are being infracted for reasons other than the real reason as to why they are being infracted; because they are violating the Terms of Service.

I'm not speaking to being infracted, or having posts moderated, but the idea of jmfcest being banned, just to be clear.

Meh if I posted like I did a few months after my arrival now days I would be banned within 10 days.  A few anger management courses does miracles for some people (not to say I refrain from anger on the forum but if I do get pissed off I'm more likely to stop being pissy if someone calls me out on it).

why would I be banned if I were new?  i do troll some, but I get infracted for it.  and some of my objective non-trolling reasoning gets infracted, like the posting of beheadings.  but my posts generally do not violate the TOS and I'm always sincere with my views and explain them in detail.  in fact, i would say I have disected my views to the nth degree, far more than probably all the posters on this board.  

if my tenure has earned me any slack, it comes in the form of Leip putting up with my rages against the machince, such as my dog day afternoon.  but those are rare.

and, yes, I screw around with a lot of eccentric posters in non TOS violating ways (eq asking Einzige about his girlfriend's "heartogram" as a way of saying, "Yo, what rock did you find her under?")  As angus pointed out, I shouldn't open those cans of worms, But the Einzige types go out of the way to appeal to trouble, so I'm just helping them find it sooner.

     The display name was changed pre-banning, as I recall. Don't know about the signature, since I don't look at those anyway.

He was muted at 100 points and couldn't post, but could still change his display name and signature.  So he changed it to what it is now, and shortly thereafter Nym banned him.
