On March 4th 2011, Wales said YES to greater powers for the National Assembly with only one council area saying NO, and that county was Monmouthshire. The English Democrats campaign in the Monmouth, Newport East and Newport West constituencies (and manage to win Newport East) on a campaign to hold a vote on the status of Monmouthshire. Following their election a local referendum is organised in the autumn of 2011 asking the question:

Do you believe that the county of Monmouthshire should be part of Wales or England?

What happens during the referendum campaign and what is the result?

Depends on the definition of monmouthshire, Id love to see the results of the assembly election for south wales east on a ward or community level (not gonna happen I expect)

there's a bit on the wiki page for the English Democrats that I wrote but has been deleted a few times, that their attempts at running in the assembly elections have resulted in them coming behind Plaid Cymru in all contests
