Either a region, county, city or part of a state you most want to visit or, alternatively, if you've already been, a place you really liked.

for me:

Alabama: rural redneck Alabama like Clio, AL
Alaska: almost all of it (save Anchorage, Fairbanks and Wasilla) specifically the far north, Aleutians, Kodiak, Glacier Bay and Ketchikan. And maybe Big Diomede Island
Arizona: Grand Canyon or some other national park
Arkansas: the Ozarks
California: Bay Area, Monterey and the general coastal area save the south
Colorado: the Rockies
Connecticut: uh, nothing really. Maybe the Gold Coast.
Delaware: lol
Florida: the Keys and the Everglades
Georgia: probably Atlanta
Hawaii: Maui and the volcanic areas
Idaho: the Rockies and probably most of rural eastern Idaho
Illinois: ugh, Chicago
Indiana: nothing really, maybe Indianapolis by default
Iowa: nothing
Kansas: the Plains and small towns in the west
Kentucky: the Appalachian areas in the east
Louisiana: the bayous and New Orleans
Maine: the whole coastal areas and those islands
Maryland: the posh DC suburbs and the Eastern Shore coastal areas
Massachusetts: Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyards
Michigan: the UP
Minnesota: though I could see places like it anywhere here, the rural areas with lots of lakes
Mississippi: nothing, or rural redneck areas
Missouri: Ozarks
Montana: the Rockies in the west and Yellowstone
Nebraska: see Kansas
Nevada: Lake Tahoe or the Hoover Dam?
New Hampshire: the places which are like Vermont, aka green mountains
New Jersey: Wildwood
New Mexico: Navajo Nation and Santa Fe
New York: Finger Lakes and most of Upstate
North Carolina: the coastal areas, Cape Hatteras and the Blue Ridge Mountains
North Dakota: dunno
Ohio: dunno
Oklahoma: lol.
Oregon: Eugene, Corvallis and the coast
Pennsylvania: the T maybe
Rhode Island: Newport and the whole bay
South Carolina: Charleston
South Dakota: Badlands and Mt. Rushmore
Tennessee: Blue Ridge
Texas: Austin
Utah: Arches National Park and the Great Salt Lake
Vermont: everything basically
Virginia: Shenandoah, Hampton Roads
Washington: the islands and the bay
West Virginia: it's all rather similar to me
Wisconsin: Madison or the lakefront areas
Wyoming: Yellowstone or most of the flat rural areas

Wildwood's good if you're there for a week in the summer. It's mostly a frat house otherwise.

Alabama: One of those weird unionist areas
Alaska: above the Arctic Circle
Arizona: Ugh, pass. Maybe the Grand Canyon.
Arkansas: Some rural area with really quirky voting habits.
California: Bay Area
Colorado: I'm not into skiing but one of those mountain towns would be interesting
Connecticut: The rural northwest to see why it's so different politically from Vermont and western Mass
Delaware: Wilmington. Legitimately.
Florida: Gainesville when there's a fest there. Otherwise please break off into the ocean.
Georgia: Yeah Atlanta would be cool.
Hawaii: The big island would be interesting for how it has every type of climate.
Idaho: Blaine County
Illinois: Chicago
Indiana: DUDE FEST!
Iowa: Screw you Hashemite, this state is great. Eastern Iowa is fantastic.
Kansas: Dull
Kentucky: Elliott County.
Louisiana: New Orleans
Maine: Arostook Count
Maryland: Baltimore
Massachusetts: All because of the movie, Charlestown
Michigan: Detroit
Minnesota: The only part of the state I haven't really been to is the mining areas up north.
Mississippi: Ugh
Missouri: Whereever opebo is when he's stuck in The Bad Place so I can visit him.
Montana: Missoula
Nebraska: That uber-remote part of the west my brother and mom were talking about.
Nevada: A brothel
New Hampshire: bleh, boring
New Jersey: New Brunswick
New Mexico: Taos
New York: NYC
North Carolina: Chapel Hill
North Dakota: There isn't anywhere here I haven't been to...I think most here would find the Reservations interesting.
Ohio: Cleveland?
Oklahoma: Bleh.
Oregon: Portland
Pennsylvania: Reading
Rhode Island: Providence
South Carolina: Bleh
South Dakota: Sioux Falls if something is going on there, Rapid City if not.
Tennessee: one of those remote unionist areas
Texas: Austin or the Mexican border.
Utah: Park City during Sundance
Vermont: anywhere would be fine
Virginia: The western bit that swung brutally against Obama and the Democrats would be interesting
Washington: Well Seattle sucks for strip clubs but would have other interesting things.
West Virginia: McDowell County
Wisconsin: I haven't really visited the east. One of those uber-Republican areas that on paper shouldn't be.
Wyoming: Been to Yellowstone, but can't think of anything else that even remotely interests me.

As someone who loves Austin dearly, it's really not that exciting a place to visit, unless you're coming for SXSW or ACL or something. I'd recommend Big Bend or the Alamo or Schlitterbahn first.

Scene haven. Home to many bands (Thursday is the most famous) and supposedly lots of venues. Melodic punk legends Lifetime (one of my favorite bands of all time) even had a song called "Theme Song For a New Brunswick Basement Show".

Wildwood's good if you're there for a week in the summer. It's mostly a frat house otherwise.

It's mostly an issue of curiosity for where my family used to vacation ages ago. I'm not a fan of American beach resorts otherwise.

The adventurous nature of this forum is sorely lacking. Who actually wants to visit NOVA in VA? There is so much more to the state than urban sprawl.

Visiting the Tetons was almost like a religious experience to this particular atheist. My older brother was a summer ranger there for many years. When he did parking lot duty, do you know what the most common question asked of him was?  Yes, you guessed it. How far is it to Yellowstone?

You know that you are somewhere different, when you go to the country store just outside the park, and find $100 bottles of wine laying around chaotically one the floor. And you can rent a canoe, and paddle on Jenny Lake to a choice of forested islands, and get baked with your partner, before getting some outdoor exercise in a prone position in perfect privacy, or wander around picking blueberries. And the view from Whetstone Mountain that you can hike up, and then look across the valley to the west to the "tits," (Teton is French for tit), and to the east to another impressive mountain range, is probably the single most persuasive datum to my knowledge that there is in fact a God.

For most states, while there are potentially interesting places to go, I can't say that I have a particular desire to go to them. My list, therefore, is rather short.

Alaska: Glacier Bay
Arizona: Grand Canyon
California: San Francisco
Florida: the Keys
Hawaii: all of it
Illinois: Chicago
Massachusetts: Boston
Nevada: Las Vegas
New York: New York City
Utah: Homestead Crater

Homestead Crater? Where's dat? I would have picked Dead Horse Point State Park in Utah myself, which at the terminus of the road, gives you a view of the junction of the Green and Colorado Rivers, with the brown of the Colorado slowly mixing with the "green" of the Green River, with a drop straight down of about 5,000 feet. You could just take a dive, and actually hit the water in the river before you die if you have strong enough legs for the push off. It has to be one of the most magnificent views on this planet (far more intimate and dramatic than the Grand Canyon), right up there with the view from the peak of Whetstone Mountain, on the east side of the Jackson Hole Canyon looking across to the Grand Tetons (big tits) on the other side.

Homestead Crater is south of Park City. It's a hot spring, well, inside a crater. I saw it on the Travel Channel once and have wanted to see it ever since. Unfortunately, for something as cool as it is, it's hard to find good pictures of it. Here are a few:

I will try to find a pic from Dead Horse, and put it up, and it's your choose. I wish I could find a pic I took about 40 years ago, at sunset, with clouds, and a rainbow, and perfect light, that was just a miracle. But I can't find the damn thing. Just Damn!

It votes the right way.

Anyway for my case. I do think NoVA will be the future of America and I haven't been there in ages.
