The moderate governor of a near-swing state who has extensive business/financial experience.  Bloggers make him the second frontrunner before he decides not to run.

How much actual media coverage was there of Warner? Because there is no 2012 coverage without mentioning him. The only times they don't they mention Palin, Huckabee, and Romney has the three candidates which obviously shows their lack of political knowledge.

His coverage picked up as he was discussed more in blogs.  He became the face of the anti-Hillary movement for a while.

Not bad.  But Warner was apparently giving more indication he was intending to run before bailing than Daniels is. That might match Thune, who was sort of courting campaign staff and such before deciding the senate was a better place for him.  Daniels if he doesn't run might be more like Feingold as far as people wanting them to run while they have little enthusiasm for the idea themselves owing to their family life.

Mitch Daniels has at least given a really good stump speech, which is more than Warner could ever say, IIRC.

Hm, that is quite likely, actually.

I remember pre-2008 coverage very well, and it was full of "WARNER! WARNER! ZOMGZ, POPULAR GOVERNOR FROM A NEAR-SWING STATE WITH SUCH A GREAT APPEACH, ZOMGZ!"

Basically that.

I would love to see a MItch Daniels vs. Mark Warner race. That would actually be a tough decision for me to make. Both excellent candidates.
