These are, in my opinion, the major variables that indicate support for the Republican Party.

-Business: this group includes small business, lower management, middle management, executives, entrepreneurs, etc. Not all of them, but definitely a majority.

-White organized religion: evangelical Protestants, fundamentalists, conservative Catholics, some Orthodox Jews, and churchgoing people in general.

-Military: more pronounced in the officer corps than in the enlisted corps.

-Married people with children: This group is more conservative on a whole range of issues than single people, for obvious reasons.

-Retirees: The Greatest/Silent Generations have pretty traditionally conservative values in general.

-Rural whites in general: This has become the norm only recently in American history, and of course, there are places like Minnesota where this isn't the case.

-Some professionals: Lawyers, doctors, dentists, engineers, etc. This isn't really the best indicator for party affiliation or political views.

So yeah, those are basically the demographics of the US Republican Party.

Ethnicity still matters. Dutch > Cubans > German Protestants > Scots > Norwegians > German Catholics > Scot Irish > Norwegians > Yankee Protestants (descended from New England stock, like me on my mother's side) > Swedes > Finns when it comes to Pubbieness for example perhaps.

With regard to doctors, I'd have thought specialist would be more Republican, while the rest would be more Democratic.
