All corrections are of course welcome.

My only comment is that the right's vote management is excellent.

Such management is like day 1 at the battle of Gettysburg for the Confederates. Completely unplanned and we all know how that ended up on day three. For all I know just wrecked it by trying to plan. Tongue

I don't know if I'd put it quite the same way, but wormyguy is quite correct. Right-wing voters traditionally turn out earlier than left-wing voters. It's still too early to tell, though I am quite confident to predict that the JCP will actually win at least one seat, probably two.

That's too early to draw any conclusion. Let's see how things evolve.

April 2011 At-Large Election

Last voter - Bacon King
votes cast 39
quota 7 (assuming all votes are valid)

Round 1
shua                    9
Duke                   7
Antonio V            7

True Federalist    6
Snowguy             4
Sewer                  2
Oakvale               1
SayNoToRomney  1
Teddy                   1
Cinyc                    1

Shua, Duke, and Antonio V are all elected in the first round.  Shua's two vote surplus is redistributed.  Sewer, SayNoToRomney, and Cinyc all write themselves in and are thus accepting write-in votes.

Round 2
True Federalist    6.89
Snowguy             4
Sewer                  2
Teddy                  1.89
Oakvale               1.22
SayNoToRomney  1
Cinyc                    1

No candidates have been elected.  SayNoToRomney was not preferenced in any other ballots and is thus eliminated.  His surplus is distributed.

Round 3
True Federalist    6.89
Snowguy             4
Teddy                  2.89
Sewer                  2
Oakvale               1.22
Cinyc                    1

No candidate is elected.  Cynic received the least votes in this count and is eliminated.  His surplus is redistributed.

Round 4
True Federalist    6.89
Snowguy             4
Teddy                  3.89
Sewer                  2
Oakvale               1.22

No candidate is elected.  Oakvale received the least votes in this count and is eliminated.  His surplus is redistributed.

Round 5
True Federalist    6.89
Snowguy             5
Teddy                  4.11
Sewer                  2

No candidate is elected.  Sewer received the least votes in this count and is eliminated.  His surplus is redistributed.

Round 6
True Federalist    7.89
Snowguy              6
Teddy                   4.11

True Federalist is elected.  Presumably, Snowguy is elected without a quota.

I just checked the thread and it looks like ChairmanSanchez just voted.  If all of True Federalist's .89 overflow went to teddy, Sanchez's vote would create a tie for the last seat.

April 2011 At-Large Election

Last voter - Eraserhead
votes cast 55
quota 10 (assuming all votes are valid)

Round 1
shua                   11
Antonio V           11

Duke                   9
True Federalist    6
Snowguy             6
Oakvale               4
Teddy                   3
Sewer                  2
SayNoToRomney  1
Cinyc                    1
NOTA                    1
ChairmanSanchez

Shua and Antonio V are all elected in the first round.  Each senator elects' surplus is redistributed.  Sewer, SayNoToRomney, Cinyc, and ChairmanSanchez all wrote themselves in and are thus accepting write-in votes.

Round 2
Duke                     9.27
True Federalist      6.54
Snowguy               6.46
Oakvale                 4.37
Teddy                    3.36
Sewer                    2
SayNoToRomney    1
Cinyc                      1
NOTA                      1
ChairmanSanchez

No candidates have been elected.  SayNoToRomney was not preferenced in any other ballots and is thus eliminated.  His surplus is redistributed.  NOTA was only marked on one ballot.  It is eliminated simultaneously and thus exhausted.

Round 3
Duke                 10.27
True Federalist     6.54
Snowguy              6.46
Oakvale                4.37
Teddy                    3.36
Sewer                    2
Cinyc                      1
exhausted              1
ChairmanSanchez

Duke is elected.  His surplus is redistributed.

Round 4
True Federalist      6.6
Snowguy               6.46
Oakvale                 4.37
Teddy                    3.54
Sewer                    2
Cinyc                      1
exhausted             1.01
ChairmanSanchez  0.01

No candidate is elected.  ChairmanSanchez received the least votes in this count and is eliminated.  His surplus is redistributed.

Round 5
True Federalist  6.6
Snowguy           6.46
Oakvale             4.37
Teddy                3.55
Sewer                2
Cinyc                  1
exhausted         1.01

No candidate is elected.  Cinyc received the least votes in this count and is eliminated.  His surplus is redistributed.

Round 6
True Federalist  6.6
Snowguy           6.46
Teddy                4.55
Oakvale             4.37
Sewer                2
exhausted         1.01

No candidate is elected.  Sewer received the least votes in this count and is eliminated.  His surplus is redistributed.

Round 7
True Federalist  7.6
Snowguy           7.46
Teddy                4.55
Oakvale             4.37
exhausted         1.01

No candidate is elected.  Oakvale received the least votes in this count and is eliminated.  His surplus is redistributed.  At this point we got lazy and distracted.  As of now, True Federalist will probably get the fourth seat and it's a toss-up between Snowguy and Teddy for the last seat.

ChairmanSanchez would be eliminated at the same time as SayNoToRomney - you first eliminate all the candidates with no first preferences, along the lowest-ranked one who did receive first preferences.

A little easier this count...all whole numbers.

62 voters, last realisticidealist
Quota = 11

Round 1
Shua: 11
Antonio: 11
Duke: 9
Snowguy: 8
Ernest: 7
Oakvale: 7
Teddy: 4
Sewer: 2
cynic: 1
officepark: 1
NOTA: 1

Shua and Antonio elected (no surpluses).  Cynic and officepark are eliminated (easiest to do this all at once, it makes no difference).  NOTA vote is exhausted.

Round 2
Shua: 11
Antonio: 11
Duke: 11
Snowguy: 8
Ernest: 7
Oakvale: 7
Teddy: 4
Sewer: 2
exhausted: 1

Duke is elected (no surplus).  Sewer is eliminated.

Round 3
Shua: 11
Antonio: 11
Duke: 11
Snowguy: 9
Ernest: 8
Oakvale: 7
Teddy: 4
exhausted: 1

Teddy is eliminated.

Round 4
Shua: 11
Antonio: 11
Duke: 11
Snowguy: 10
Ernest: 11
Oakvale: 7
exhausted: 1

Ernest elected.  Oakvale eliminated, and Snowguy elected without quota.

He preferenced himself second.  I couldn't transfer that preference until after Duke had been eliminated.  Thus, he stayed in longer than SayNoToRomney.

And thanks for that Fritz.  I wonder where all the other right-wing voters are?

Any candidate with no 1st prefs is eliminated on first count. It would make no sense otherwise.

People with no first preferences after the first transfer are immediately eliminated.  See Fritz's post as an example.

Oh, ok.  That doesn't materially effect the count but it's good to know.

Unless the law changed, I don't think that's true.

If for example, the JCP had 2 candidates, and all 36 JCP voters voted for JCP-A then JCP-B.
If the quota was say 18, then despite receiving no votes on Count 1, JCP-B would get the benefit of 18 surplus votes from JCP-A and get elected on Count 2.

You're right, but as soon as the first elimination occurs, candidates with 0 prefs should go first.

If NOTA wins an election, the election is invalidated. The law specifically refers to NOTA and not exhausted, hence NOTA=/=Exhausted, and continues to do so, until it is confirmed NOTA has not won.
