Commercial news is ridiculous.

Channel 9: 1 minute on Japan, then onto Fevola.

Channel 7: 2 and a bit minutes on Japan, then Brendan Fevola, Jim Stynes, Charlie Sheen, train disruptions, traffic congestion, Tyler Cassidy...

ABC News 24: Rolling coverage of Japan, but without any new info/pics for 5 minutes

Now on to Channel 10...

---------------

Best wishes to the people of Japan and the northern Pacific.

They also added the rest of the Pacific, does that include the West Coast as well?

Hawaii is currently the only state with a warning.

NHK have said warnings for Chile and Peru.I'd be surprised if that didn't cover Alaska through Mexico too.

Australian BOM have said no cause for concern, with maximum effect 1m swells. Concerns for Vanuatu, PNG, Palau etc though.

depends on the path. Normally you'd expect very low effects in the southern hemisphere, but Chile and particularly Peru (and up) have infrastructure that wouldn't be able to cope with the surge they're being warned of of 2-3m.
