1 Obama - Either just before or just after he won his Senate primary. There was a lot of buzz on Kos about him.
2 Roemer - Probably during the Duke race.
3 Cain - Within the last few months.
4 Pawlenty - Probably '02 gubernatorial race.
5 Krager - Still no idea. 1st Nightmare on Elm Street?
6 Biden - '87. Vaguely remember SNL/Carson/etc making fun of his plagiarism scandal.
7 Romney - '94 Kennedy race.
8 Huckabee - '02 gubernatorial race, maybe.
9 McCain - Not sure. Possibly during Keating Five scandal.
10 Palin - '06 election.

1. Barack Obama
2. Buddy Roemer
3. Herman Cain
4. Tim Pawlenty
5. Fred Krager
6. Joe Biden Tongue
7. Mitt Romney
8. Mike Huckabee
9. John McCain
10. Sarah Palin

My answers:

1. Democratic National Convention 2004
2. Christmas break 2006, when I was reading David Duke's wikipedia article.
3. Oh a long ways back, maybe even pre-2000's.  I remember hearing a good deal about him because my friend Al was a huge fan of Godfather's Pizza.  Politically though?  Had not f***ing clue he was into that until like five minutes ago.
4. I think I first heard his name some time in mid 2005 when he signed something about ethanol in gasoline.
5. A month ago when someone on this forum mentioned him in another thread (don't remember who or where it was)
6. In early 2002 when in class we watched a video on election scandals and it covered Biden's scandal in 1988 (plagiarism I believe).
7. I think I heard about him right around the time the whole Massachusetts healthcare debate was happening.  So maybe in 2006ish?
8. 1998 is probably the first time I heard his name when a family friend from Conway, Arkansas mentioned meeting him.
9. 2000 whenever the fundies went ape on his ass.
10. Late 2006, after she won gubernatorial race.  My initial first thought was actually a lot like Kals, she seemed like a really nice person and even a little smart.  Later on however I would be proven badly wrong.

1. Early 2004. I started following that Senate primary early.
2. Eh some years ago after hearing about the David Duke campaign and Edwin Edwards. 2004 or so.
3. 2004 in his Senate campaign.
4. When I started going to college and thus paying attention to the Minnesota gubernatorial race, so around August 2002.
5. No clue
6. 2002 as that was the first real Senate elections I followed nationally.
7. After his gubernatorial victory. So late 2002.
8. Early 2004 when some wanted him to run against Blanche Lincoln.
9. Early 2000.
10. Believe it or not, actually 2004. I remember her name being floated as an opponent to Lisa Murkowski while lurking on Free Republic.

Since publicity/recognition seems to be huge issue here, when was the first time you ever heard of/learned about following people:

1. Barack Obama
2. Buddy Roemer
3. Herman Cain
4. Tim Pawlenty
5. Fred Krager
6. Joe Biden Tongue
7. Mitt Romney
8. Mike Huckabee
9. John McCain
10. Sarah Palin
I was 8 or 9 when Bush was re-elected. Thats when I started following politics, but I really never learned anything about the government until 2006 or so.

1. 2007, though my Grandma and I watched him in 2004, but I dont really remeber that for sure.
2. About 3 months ago.
3. Heard him on the radio once. Never gave a thought about him in 2012.
4. 2-3 years ago.
5. I dont remeber.
6. When he started his 08 campaign for President.
7. Same as above.
8. Once again, same as above.
9. Mid 2006, saw him on FOX.
10. When she appeared on McCains shortlist.

No one else followed Barack Obama's hyped primary run against Bobby Rush in 2000? Roll Call, which was free back then, covered it extensively.

1. Obama - 2004, during the senate race when his surrogates managed to secure the release of private (on both husband and wife's part) divorce records - and Ryan was not out banging another chick, he and Jeri had very unorthodox sexual practices that Jeri used as part of divorce proceedings even though she was along for the ride.
2. Buddy Roemer - at McCain's election night shindig at the Biltmore, he was one of the speakers, I said "Who?" then, and I still say "Who?" now.
3. Herman Cain - wanted him to beat Isacson (sp?) in the 2004 senate race
4. Tim Pawlenty - after he got a surprising second term in Minnesota in 2006
5. Fred Karger - on this forum and Who?
6. Joe Biden - 2007 in the democratic primaries
7. Mitt Romney - believe it or not, 2008, in the primaries
8. Mike Huckabee - 2008 primaries

1. Barry-O: 2008 as a Democratic candidate for the nomination (early on). Everyone I knew hated Hillary for the obvious reasons so most of us were rooting for Obama.
2. Buddy: This forum sometime last year I think.
3. Herman Cain: Subbing for either Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity on a radio show maybe Thanksgiving/Christmas time 2009?
4. T-Paw: I think on this forum as a possible alternative to Romney in winning NH primary. Not sure when though.
5. Fred Karger: On wikipedia, early this year or more likely late last year.
6. Joe Biden: DNC 2008?
7. Mittens: I think early 2008. My parents were rooting for Thompson then switched support to Romney.
8. Huc: Around the Iowa caucuses in 2008 I think. I remember the lead up and how it was all about Mitt vs. Huck. Now you've got me all sentimental.
9. Mack: 2007, I think. I was starting to get interested in politics and I wanted to know who would run for President in 2008. I heard about Senator John McCain, an old dude wearing a cowboy hat (I think) who visited Iraq at some point. That was all I knew about him at that point though.
10. Sarah: When McCain announced his VP pick.

1. Barack Obama - 2000, when Roll Call hyped his House primary run against Bobby Rush, but forgot about him until '04

4. Tim Pawlenty - 2002, won the governor's race
5. Fred Krager - a month ago
6. Joe Biden Tongue - 1992? Because he was going to run again, but he'd plagiarized in '88?
7. Mitt Romney - 1994 when running for Senate against Ted Kennedy and maybe winning
8. Mike Huckabee - 1996, Clinton's replacement kicked out in disgrace and a Republican moves up
9. John McCain - mid-1990s? because of campaign finance reform?
10. Sarah Palin - 2006 when she ran as the reform candidate in the gubernatorial primary

1. Barack Obama - sometime in 2004, I don't know anymore if I watched him at the DNC, but I know for sure that I watched John Kerry's speech at the 2004 DNC and I even taped it, but I think I've read in early 2004 about the controvery of his opponent Ryan and his wife Jeri, because I'm a big Star Trek fan.

2. Buddy Roemer - 2009 or so, when I read something in Wiki about David Duke

3. Herman Cain - late 2010/ beginning of 2011

4. Tim Pawlenty - a few months before the 2006 gubernatorial elections

5. Fred Krager - who ?

6. Joe Biden - have read about him as early as 2002/2003

7. Mitt Romney - read about him when he had to deal with the 2002 winter olympics

8. Mike Huckabee - certainly before the 2006 gubernatorial elections, maybe earlier

9. John McCain - have distant memories about him from the race against Bush in 1999/2000

10. Sarah Palin - a few months before the 2006 gubernatorial elections
