I am not looking at selling vacuums.  I am looking at selling a completely different product: insurance.

They say there are no cold calls, because they have more leads than they have agents to follow up on them.  It starts with a 3-day "Boot Camp", which they do not charge for (though I presume that I pay the travel expense).  Then I have to get licensed in my state.  Within a few weeks, I could be making $42-47,000 part time, or $75-105,000 full time.  They say this is not MLM.

I have a telephone interview scheduled for Monday.  What do you guys think?  Is this legit, or should I run away?

It took Gramps a while to recover from the mass extinction of the dinosaurs.  Who knew raptors bought life insurance policies?

Of course you should run away.  Fritz, how old are you?  Do you have a university degree?  Why not come teach in Thailand?  You could make about $1,000-2,000/month in a country where a basic apartment runs between $100 and $200 and a delicious restaurant meal is $1-3.

OK, I have to admit any kind of employment, whether selling insurance, vacuums, or teaching, is a terrible misery.  But the above was all I had to contribute.

I'm 46, and yes I have a degree.  No desire to move to Thailand.

No, it isn't American Income.

The starting point needs to be whether you can like and be good at selling stuff in general. I know I can't do it. I know BushOK can't do it. I do know people who can do it and make lots out of it.

But for most people it's just a bad experience.

That makes you worse than BushOK.

I don't think I will go through with this.  You have to buy the leads.

Have you bragged about selling dodgy insurance to your own parents? If not, no.

Well, I only suggested leaving the sinking ship, not to call you a rat, but rather to just recognize the desperation inherent in the plan you were proposing.  I think if you are considering selling insurance you might do well to start to consider things you have 'no desire' to do.  I mean, I'm guessing it must be pretty bad?  No offense - I'm empathizing, not patronizing: I live every day in fear of falling into poverty or working-class status.

I have been contacted by a few of these firms, sat though an Interview/information session through NY Life after being contacted by them.  It can be lucrative for some, but it takes awhile to get started and you could easily be putting in 12 hour days without getting much in return.   The whole buy your own leads isn't good either, most companies will at least provide you with something.

I don't know much about selling insurance, but I know that when you have to "buy the leads" or something similar it's usually a scam.
