Gotta go with Harmattan: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harmattan

The most stupid one is "MOBILE".

Uh, Odyssey Dawn is the coolest name for anything ever. Say what you will about the United States military, but they know how to name shít.

Excluding the Canadian one (seriously, wtf ?!?), I don't even know where the british and french names come from. Odyssey Dawn by default.

Harmattan is actually a pretty cool name, now that I read the Wikipedia, but I still like Odyssey Dawn.

Harmattan effectively seems to be the official French name. Not bad. But anyhow, here, in media it's all: Aube de l'Odyssée. I'm not sure if it sounds better in French or in English. Hmm, I'd put a 'L'' in front of it, and it would look perfect: L'Aube de l'Odyssée. That being said, Harmattan is far more suit for a military operation, it's strong, clear, and without place for fun. Odissey Dawn is far more lyrical, not unpleasant though.

I'm always faintly troubled by the tendency of Western military establishments to believe that they are characters in a computer game of their own devising.

Actually they are characters in a computer game of their own devising - they just sit at computers and slaughter Libyans who cannot fight back.  I'm sure it does feel like a game to them.

I don't even know where the british and french names come from.

A randomised list, I guess.

The French one makes sense, note the link in the OP. No clue about the British. Canada's is probably randomized, and they need more interesting names in that list.

It appears that all Canadian military operations have one word all caps names. The post-9/11 operations to assist stranded air passengers was called Operation SUPPORT and Canada's aid for Hurricane Katrina was called Operation UNISON, Operation ACCIUS is what they are doing in Afghanistan, etc.
