This board has been struggling for a while now. This is unfortunate, because I think interactive timelines are wonderful and extremely enjoyable. I'll now be taking matters into my own hands by running my own interactive timeline. I'm setting it in 2008 because I think that's a year people are very familiar with so it'd be easier to do.

2008

In the mid-1980's, the 22nd amendment was officially amended so that Presidents may seek up to three terms, instead of the original two. Despite this, President's Reagan and Clinton both decided not to seek a third term.

In the 2006 midterm elections, Democrats made huge gains, winning back the House. However, a narrow loss by Jim Webb in Virginia prevented Democrats from taking the Senate.

Democratic Candidates:
Hillary Clinton - Napoleon
Barack Obama - vacant
John Edwards - vacant
Al Gore - vacant
Joe Biden - vacant
Chris Dodd - Yelnoc
Joseph Lieberman - True Federalist
Tom Vilsack - vacant
Dennis Kucinich - vacant
Mark Warner - vacant
Bill Richardson - Sirnick
Wesley Clark - vacant
Mike Gravel - Wormyguy

Republican Candidates:
George W. Bush - Feeblepizza
Rudy Giuliani - vacant
John McCain - vacant
Mitt Romney - vacant
Mike Huckabee - vacant
Duncan Hunter - vacant
Ron Paul - Jake Matthews
Kay Bailey Hutchison - vacant
Condoleeza Rice - vacant
Jim Demint - vacant
Fred Thompson - vacant
Donald Trump - tb75
Mark Sanford - ChairmanSanchez

~ Please privately notify me if you'd like to be a candidate not on this list. No third party candidates will be allowed.

~ The start date for this timeline will be July 1st, 2007. Later than they usually begin, but in the past, activity seems to dry up the longer it takes for an election to occur. You may post in past-tense, though.

Unfortunately no, since I'll be running the timeline. Sad I think I'd probably be a bit too biased towards myself if I ran. Wink

I'd like to be Joseph Lieberman, running as a Democrat.  With W. running for a third term, I doubt Lieberman would back McCain openly as he did in real life, so if wants to try to influence the race, he'll need to run himself.
Granted.

I'll be Chris Dodd.

Why is Dubya on the candidates list?  Presidents are term limited.

Oh alright....

To those of you still deciding on who to play as; be a Republican.  Otherwise, Ron Paul will cruise to victory Shocked
If Ron Paul becomes the automatic presumptive nominee, he'll also be able to start his GE campaign much earlier, and would have a significant advantage over his Democrat. Probably could erase much of the early deficit he'd face.

I may join just to save the Republican Party. Thing is I don't want to be one of the regulars like Mitt or Huck. Duncan Hunter might be interesting...
You could also try someone who isn't on the list. To name a few - Dick Lugar, Chuck Grassley, John Kyl, Olympia Snowe, Sam Brownback, George Allen (who was reelected in 2006).

Anyone else interested? Tb75 has expressed interest in switching to Donald Trump if no other GOP players emerge. I'll leave sign-ups open for another day or so.

Excellent.

Tb75, would you like to play as Trump, or remain as Gore?

Could I join as Duncan Hunter? I wouldn't be the most active (unless I got bored with other stuff I was doing), but I'd like to contribute.
Sure thing! I'll quickly add you to polling.

Hmm, let's say one day=one week. Every four days or so I'll be giving the "monthly" update. I'll let you all know beforehand if this changes.

Something else...
Just so you don't have to wait too long for endorsements, I may send you an early endorsement via pm that you can use, and I'll publically post an updated endorsement list frequently.

If you use anyone other than a confirmed endorser or a family member, you'll be penalized in the polls from this point forward.

Did the Paul Simon thing count as an endorsement?  It was an OTL thing that was probably set up before July 1st (it happened July 2nd) so I thought it would be ok.
In the future, it wouldn't, but I'll let this slide since I didn't clarify. Right now, no one has any endorsements. Since you've used Simon, I'll let it slide, as I doubt everyone was yearning for him. Wink

Can I be Alan Keyes (not as a third party)?
Sure, if that's who you want.

That is correct. I'm sending several endorsements through pm, which will all be made public, as well as some more, in the next update. If someone uses an endorsement I didn't grant, I'll call them out on it, and they'll be penalized for it.

Woot!  Awesome update.  Richardson, will you endorse a candidate?

Tmthforu, if you are looking for more endorsers later on for Dodd, a reputable source says Jeffrey Katzenberg and Barbara Streisand were noth notable donors to his OTL campaign.
Actually, I'm getting a lot of my endorsements from Wikipedia, on who actually endorsed them in RL. Wink Have to get creative on the ones who didn't run, though. I'll take a look at that.

Notice: I have a lot on my plate this week with work and college days, so an update will not come until Wednesday or possibly Friday. I'll try and throw a few small ones in for you, however.
