Everyone in Minneapolis, St. Paul and Duluth has known this for quite some time. It's too bad I can't say "Everyone in Minnesota" though.

Please, Pawlenty isn't anyone to worry about, it's being discussed because he is a complete fake. Not that being fake isn't a required trait for being a Republican, but he's being far to transparent with it.

Adopting a Southern accent in South Carolina is one thing, but in New Hampshire I don't see that sort of style-shifting as admirable in the least.

I don't see this as even relevant, he fakes an accent and now he's "fake"? These are politicians, which one of them has a perfectly clean bill of health? And by health I mean honesty.

The problem is that if Pawlenty keeps up the obvious pandering he will eventually build a perception as a phony who morphs to every crowd. And once a perception is built for a politician, it is hard to shake, Clinton=philanderer, Quayle=stupid, Gore=exaggerator, Kerry=flip flopper, etc.

Meh. I remember Hillary doing the same thing in 08.

Obama also seems to have an Ebonics switch that he frequently turns on and off.

Though I suppose both of them generally catered it to the audience they were speaking to...

Pawlenty filed for President in order to provide some much needed comic relief.

I've heard people say the same thing when liberals point out Palin's gaffes. What exactly is it that makes you guys think this way? Some people are objectively wrong and deserve to be called out on it. I think it's legitimate to attack Pawlenty for not being genuine. I'm wondering why anyone would think that what essentially amounts to lying is an acceptable quality for a leader.

A fake southerner?  In the GOP?  Say it isn't so!!!!!!?

I once went into a Carl's Jr. and pretended to have an English accent (because saying "British" would be inaccurate since it would encompass such a wide array of accents such as Scottish, Welch, Cornish, and even Northern Irish) and order some fish and chips.  When I got to the counter and ordered the person behind the counter, being a sister lovin Okie cashier, gave me a "yeah right" stare and told me to get to the back of the bus with my fellow blacks.
Say what you want to about the back of the bus at least it has air conditioning now days.

THe point of my pointless story is that it is pointless to attempt fake accents, especially if you aren't from the area you are impersonating.  Impersonating accents only make you look like a total ass to people with bullsh*t detectors.  You would be better off just saying you are from (insert random English speaking country or territory) and that you took a lot of speech therapy when you came into the states then pull off a phony accent.

Unless of course you are involved in the arts in which it is NECESSARY that you pretend to be someone that you're not.  Goddamn fag smokers.

Well then, it's speaker design.
