If Mahoning, Trumbull, Ashtabula, Geauga, Lake, Portage, Stark, Summit, Cuyahoga, Lorain, Erie, Sandusky, Ottawa, and Lucas counties seceded to form a new state called Cuyahoga and Lake, Porter, LaPorte, and St Joseph counties in Indiana were annexed by Michigan, how similar would the new states of Ohio and Indiana be, politically speaking?

Well, Columbus metro area and Cinnicinati metro area are more Democratic combined than the Indianapolis metro area.

You'd have to isolate Columbus somehow. Cinnicinati and Indianapolis are pretty comparable to each other.

Cincy metro is quite a bit more GOP than Indy or Columbus. Obama just barely won Hamilton County and was predictably trounced in the burbs.
