The precinct maps on this board have been great. I have an idea for another type of map. It could have general election results overlapped with race/ethnicity or primary preference, i.e. one color for white-majority Obama, another color for black-majority Obama, and so on, or another map with one color for Clinton in the primary, Obama in the general, and so on. This could also be done for state House districts if precincts are too cumbersome.

Which states and which precincts are you talking about? I can give you all the data you need for elections/demographics for New England and New York if you need it.

Google search "Mapping America New York Times" and it'll give you a bunch of data in map form by census tract (not precinct). Even though the basic unit size is different, I'm sure it's useful enough as an overlay.

Homely, do you know where to find precinct data for NY?

nclib's idea seems plausible...I was thinking of doing some racial/political mapping at some point as well.

I have a feeling this wouldn't be all that useful for some areas, for example, precincts in the Central Valley that have 1,000 Hispanics and 3 Whites that cast 3 votes total.

But you could always just run a correlation coefficient on a spreadsheet and than square it to for the R^2.
