I say yes. Russ Feingold is a good example of a left-leaning politician who was also a fiscal conservative.

It depends what's meant by "fiscally conservative".

I say yes. Russ Feingold is a good example of a left-leaning politician who was also a fiscal conservative.

Feingold was known for opposing in porkbarrel spending and wanting to reduce corporate welfare and government waste.  I guess that makes him a budget hawk.  Some folks might reasonably say he was conservative.  But he was also for eliminating capital punishment and environmental protection and single-payer medical insurance and the like.  So that puts him on the left of the political ideology scale.  Good example.

Yes-and you can be right wing and fiscally liberal as well.

Some folks are traditionalistic and support capital punishment and oppose stricter emission standards and same-sex marriage, but who also increase government spending.  Governor Huckabee is a good example of this type.  During his two terms as Arkansas governor, public spending increased at three times the rate of inflation.  He has also said that "art and music are as important as math and science" in public schools, he wants these programs funded, directed, and administered by the federal government.  So he's a big spender who's on the right end of the ideological spectrum.

We're using "fiscally conservative" to mean "pay for what you spend?"  If so, sure.  As long as you advocate a tax level that corresponds to your proposed spending level.
