Oh c'mon you remember you college days, no?

As we age we have time to focus on other things, like raising a family, a career, etc.....and yes, sadly, politics!  Tongue
Just kidding, Gramps!  Smiley  I do think that younger voters are distracted by lots of things and often are not fully invested in the political process.  But I also think the do occasionally get quite engaged, but often lose interest quickly and get impatient because the political process doesn't deliver things immediately.

To be honest if I had a choice of having a son who could either:

1) Get into Med School and be apolitical

or

2) The opposite of 1)

I take 1)

IMO it's far more impressive to score a 'T' on the MCAT than it is to possess knowledge of who Moammar Gaddafi and Joe Biden are.

This is very true.

Kids!  I don't know what's wrong with these kids today.
Kids!  Who can understand anything they say.
Kids!  They are disobedient, disrespectful oafs.
Noisy, crazy, sloppy, lazy loafers.
And while I'm on the subject,
Kids!  You can talk and talk 'til your face is blue.
Kids!  But they still do just what they want to do!
Why can't they be like we were?
Perfect in every way!
What's the matter with kids today?

I would rather people be disinterested. Apolitical societies are far more civil and better. Compare the 1990s with today especially the extreme politicization of everything since 2001. I partially blame Bush's permanent campaign mode that he basically did from late 2001 to the end of 2006.

Naso being politically active certainly rules out "lack of knowledge" as a deterrent.

Not necessarily. My Dad told me that when he went to vote in the 08 primaries, there was a man behind him (wearing an Obama hat nonetheless) who, when asked if he was a Republican or a Democrat responded "What's that?"

It is perfectly feasible to be politically active without knowing anything more than the candidates' names or a party allegience.
