Mitt Romney finally secures the Republican nomination, defeating a plethora of candidates not seen as Presidential or charismatic.  He chooses his closest competitor, Haley Barbour, as his running mate.

Donald Trump dropped out of the Republican race after having little support in the early primaries.  However, he did not give up his aspirations, instead declaring an Independent candidacy and persuading General Stanley McChrystal to be his running mate.

At the time of the election, unemployment rests at just under 8 percent, and President Obama's approval ratings are in the low 50s.  For the sake of argument, Trump doesn't go crazy like Perot, participates in the debates, and outspends Romney (although Obama sets a record for campaign spending).

President Barack H. Obama (D-IL) / Vice President Joseph R. Biden (D-DE)
vs.
Former Governor Willard Mitt Romney (R-MA) / Governor Haley Barbour (R-MS)
vs.
Mr. Donald J. Trump / Retired General Stanley A. McChrystal

Discuss, with maps.

Trump would split the vote, and do well in places like Florida, New York, etc. I would think Romney would pick Jindall or Rubio though, Barbor seems to bland of a VP selection. Dole/Kemp 2.0
