Yeah, I think there was an old thread for this but I don't feel like necroing.

I myself would vote for the libertarian-leaner, Weld.

I'd definitely go for Weld.  One of my favorite GOPhers versus a symbol of MA Democratic corruption.

John Silber.

Who's that last one, by the way? I've never heard of him.

I have no interest in voting for a libertarian-leaning candidate, but Silber's a little crazy for my liking. I'm also not fond of his wanting to kill old people and use welfare as a weapon against people he views as 'unworthy' or 'sinful' because of having too many children, etc. Ugh. I'd probably vote for the independent. I don't know anything about him though...

That's good because Weld isn't one.

How so? Isn't he was generally regarded as a 'downsize the government' conservative with socially liberal leanings? Explicitly professing a libertarian ideology isn't what I mean by libertarian-leaning.

Weld did expand the Massachusetts government though. I'd have voted for him.

Except he didn't downsize government at all. He cut it by a measly 1.8% his first year then subsequently increased the budget roughly 17% by 1994. And social liberalism more often than not is the anti-thesis of libertarianism, there is nothing libertarian about affirmative action, gun control or special protections for gays for example. All of which of course Weld supported.

I went back and found the actual numbers, and you are right, mostly. I honestly am not that well versed on Massachusetts state politics. However, from looking at a breakdown of the numbers and what you've mentioned, I can't say I like him any more than when I first posted in this thread, just for different reasons. Tongue

Yeah I heard something similar from Libertas, thus my "meh" vote.

Well, if only there were more Republicans like Bill Weld.

Weld at least isn't a liar/phony as compared to Mittens. I suppose I'd go for him.

Though not as great as Romney, I'd say Weld.
