I think he can for the same reason Obama did: he's a charismatic outsider.

Of course not, he looks like a pumpkin and nobody takes him seriously.

Though I suppose the precedent for wealthy celebrities cashing in on their own fame for political success has been set, most grandly by Ronald Reagan, so perhaps I shouldn't discount him so quickly.

Probably not. He's quickly gaining a reputation of being a looney tune, which is something Obama never did. I think he'll poll well for a while & then fall away when the albatross of unelectability comes home to roost, like it did with Palin.

Definitely.  Anti-black ultra-right candidate - he'll be hard to beat.

He's not at all charismatic, his personality is too combative for that.

No.

(A) He is unlikely to run, since that would require some audits that I doubt he would want.

(B) Assuming he ran, the Republican primary would be filled with candidates running easy smear campaigns on him.

(C) His approval ratings are horrible.

There's a difference between "charismatic" and "asshole".

By the 4th of July, it'll be clear Trump has as much chance as any Republican of beating Obama.

None.

I wish he wouldn't destroy himself so quickly. Of the Republican field he's the only one egotistical enough to run as an independent, he has to be slightly credible to siphon off votes.

Actually I may be premature in assuming all losing primary candidates will take one for the team and step aside.

I'm going to see him on Saturday at the Boca Tea Party----and remind my fellow 'baggers about his platform when he attempted a run as a Reform Party candidate.

Hey, George W. Bush got two terms. Who knows what'll happen. Granted, Dubya did face one of the pussiest flip-flopping douches in all of modern politics.

Well, he didn't try to run to the left of Ted Kennedy on abortion in 1994.

Trump was against the Iraq War, supports collective bargining and thinks George W. Bush was a bad President.

That sure sounds like a GOP Primary winner right there!

If Trump were to somehow get the nomination, who would he pick as his running mate?
