New Timeline:

7:00
Good evening America, the polls have closed in: Indiana, Kentucky, South Carolina, Georgia, Virginia and Vermont. We can project based on exit polling and some of the raw data and we can project that Pres. Obama has carried the state of Vermont, while Gov. Romney will carry Kentucky, Indiana, and South Carolina.

7:30
At this time we have no states to project.

Romney would never pick Ayotte--imagine the Tea Party reaction to two New England moderates. Romney would probably pick a conservative Midwesterner or Southerner like Thune or Jindal.

Still, nice job so far. I like election night timelines, especially nail-biters.

8:00

We're back at the top of the hour and we have states to project: Based on exit polling and raw votes we have received we can project that Gov. Romney will carry: Alabama, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Mississippi. And, for the President we can project he will carry: Maine, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Delaware, Maryland, Illinois, New Jersey and the District of Columbia. Based on the date we have received we cannot project a winner in the state of Pennsylvania and New Hamphisre. Also, the states of Virginia, North Carolina, Missouri and Florida remain too close to call.

8:35

We have just for called Arkansas for Gov. Romney as well as the the state of Georgia.

8:47

We have a major projection to make at this hour and it appears we can call the Keystone State for Pres. Obama at this time. This is certainly a blow to the Romney campaign who spent a lot of time and energy, and hoped to flip it into the Republican column.

9:00

More states have closed at this hour and we can project for Gov. Romney: Arizona, Kansas, Louisana, Nebraska, South Dakota, Texas, Wyoming and Colorado. Colorado is a major upset tonight. Obama had a small lead going into it, but Romney has done another major flip tonight and returned an Obama 2008 state back into the Republican column.

As for the President we can project: Rhode Island, New York, Minnesota, and New Mexico. With an load of states still undecided or too close to call, let's look at the map for evening.

9:10

At this time we can finally project a winner in the state of New Hampshire, it will be Gov. Romney, which much of the credit going to the choice of his running mate Sen. Kelly Ayotte.
Also, we can project the state of Virginia into the Obama column, which must be allowing Democrat's a sigh of relief.

9:30

We have two major projection to make at this point, the state of Michigan will go to Pres. Obama by a narrow margin of 51% to Romney's 47%. The second project is in the state of
Ohio. Ohio will go for Romney. No Republican candidate has won the White House without winning Ohio, so this is a good sign for the Romney camp.

10:00

It's 10:00 on the east, and at this hour more states' polls have closed and we have more winners to declare. Pres. Obama will hold onto Iowa, while Gov. Romney will carry: Utah and Montana.

R: 202
D: 178

In terms of the popular vote Romney leads Obama with 49% of the popular vote.

10:25

Another state can finally be given a winner and it is in the state of Florida. The sunshine state will go for Romney. Repeat, Florida will go for Romney. And, it appears Missouri will also go to him, based on 80% of the vote that has been counted. That is two more states going for Romney, pushing him closer towards the 270 mark.

R: 241
D: 178

10:48

The Obama campaign can breathe a little easier, knowing now that Wisconsin has gone into their camp once again.

D: 266
R: 248

Nevada and North Carolina remained undecided with Obama holding a thin lead in both states.

11:35:

Gov. Romney has managed to overtake Pres. Obama's lead in Nevada, and with 97% of the vote counted we are prepared to call Nevada for him at this time.

D: 266
R: 254

This news has to be encouraging for the Romney camp. He has spent a lot of time in this state and it appears to have paid off. The question now remains on North Carolina, and we'll see if Romney will pull a Massachusetts miracle and upset Pres. Obama.

R: 48.9% 507,172
D: 48.3% 500,948

In North Carolina with 97% of the vote counted Pres. Obama seems to be holding onto his lead, though it appears to be shrinking. He nows only leads Gov. Romney by 3,800 votes.

D: 48.7% 1,850,512
R: 48.6% 1,846,712

12:00
98% of the vote in and we are projecting the state of North Carolina for Pres. Obama, and thus his reelection.

D: 49.01% 1,862,291
R: 49.00% 1,861,911

However, we are getting word that no formal concession is coming from the Romney campaign because of the closeness in the state of North Carolina.

12:15

Pres. Obama's campaign is remaining neutral, as they await a response from the Romney campaign at this hour. The victory for Obama is razor thin, and there is discussion that we might have another Florida of 2000 on our hands tonight.

12:30

At this time we are going to put the state of North Carolina back into the undecided column, amid a statement from the Romney campaign that they are examining votes in the states, to see if the Governor can prevail.

D: 266
R: 254

1:00

Alaska, no surprise goes for Romney. North Carolina remains undecided.

D: 266
R: 257

1:10

We have received a statement from the Romney campaign indicating a signal of concession. "When the final votes are tallied it appears that we will not have the needed delegates to win the election."

1:25

North Carolina has been called for Pres. Obama, now with 99% of the vote counted.

D: 49.30%: 1,873,311
R: 49.28%: 1,872,551

D: 281
R: 257

Final Results:

Pres. Obama:  49.55%: 281
Gov. Mitt Romney: 48.25%: 257
