I am strongly opposed to this. Paranoia about taxes hasn't exactly helped the economy of Alabama.

Yet high taxes will?

yes, when the money is sent back to Alabama to make improvements, it will help Alabamians

Harry, that makes no sense at all.  By the time tax dollars are funneled through the state bureaucracy, there will be fewer dollars returned to the people of Alabama than was taken from them in the first place.  The same applies to the rest of the country.

I don't know about high taxes. Normal levels of taxation might actually be a good idea though...

I am against this bill.  If an emergency tax hike is needed, and soome senators are holding grudges against other senators, the needed tax hike will not be passed.

I'm so happy to hear both of you come out for a tax raise on the working people of Atlasia.

I hereby open the debate.

(Note I have been giving preference to constitutional amendments on debating time)

I'd rather trim the deficit by going back to the tax system that was in place during an economic boom than by gutting domestic programs that help working people.

Except they don't help them.

Well if you take money away from a domestic program, like education, they are going to feel the heat of having less money to do the same thing with.
