Aren't you a libertarian though? They don't like Lincoln.
Aren't you a Texan though? They didn't like Lincoln either.

I'm not sure which is more bland: Phil's repeated use of the same joke over and over to try and get a quick zinger on me, or BRTD continuing to post aforementioned repeated "zingers" in the sulfur mine.

Carl, you kind of bring it on yourself. You bash libertarians with the fervour of a bitter apostate and it's pretty funny.

I'm an asshole, what can I say?

Well that's a start. Keep going.

Yes, I'm well aware of who this post is by, but credit where credit is due. A bit simple, but not much more really needs to be said.

You and your friends are really classy.

Non-lifers here may not be aware that BRTD originally hails from the sophisticated metropolis of North Dakota.

Vosem, we don't want to know how much of a disgusting, degenerate excuse of a human being you are. We really don't need this knowledge in our lives.

But we do need your histrionics about Vosem.

I thought this was going to be a completely different topic.

Franzl, as usual, says all that needs to be said.

In the 21st century, for me, democracy is almost entirely a means to an end. At the moment, a democratic system (at least in my country) seems to gurantee respect for private property, the rule of law and the nation state. But I have no sentimental attachment to democracy. If a government was to be democratically elected which pledged to nationalise banks permanently, promote atheism in schools, abolish the monarchy, attack the concept of private property and introduce other such policies, I would be perfectly prepared to drop the idea of democracy like a hot brick, and instead support a coup d'etat to remove that administration and replace it with a more agreeable one. As for foreign countries, I would not be averse to financing/effecting coup's against democratically-elected governments who pursued policies which were particularly dangerous to my country or to it's allies. So yes, democracy is a system which a majority of people will support in today's world, but if that system threatens me, or people that I'm close to or sympathise with, then, no, it is not important that it be maintained.

Do you really need to demonstrate what a horrible person you are in practically every post?

Mary Landrieu better start praying frantically that this same thing doesn't happen in Louisiana.

Yeah, I can hear the voters now.

"Hey, did you hear about that unelected judge who overturned our gay marriage ban yesterday?"
"Yeah, that's what happens when you got a woman in the Senate and a n***** in the White House!  Cassidy 2014!"

Maybe Cassius like myself doesn't believe in gay marriage. Susan Martinez and the conservatives will fight back like we did (and were victorious in California) in New Mexico. The courts need to butt out of this issue.

You know you actually did not win that one, right?

The people voted in favor of Prop 8. So actually we did . The federal courts have no right to interfere on this one based on Article 1 Section 8 and the 10 Amendment of the Constitution. Read it and weep.

I take it you don't care much for that 14th Amendment though, huh?

"Read it and weep?" What? Are you or are you not aware that gay couples in California are currently getting married right this second, and there's nothing you or any other bigots can do about it?

Do you by chance have a rebuttal to the legal reasoning used by the 9th Circuit to arrive at their decision in Hollingsworth v. Perry that you'd like to share, or are you just going to continue to assert that ballot initiatives rule and courts drool?

Here's a hypothetical for you: If the voters of a state voted overwhelmingly in favor of a ballot initiative suspending the right to bear arms in the state, would that be constitutional?

A bunch of other people also died today and probably contributed just as much, if not more, to our society than a dude who happened to be the son of a former President. Shame you won't hear anything about them, though.

Maybe you should make a daily thread for them. Would that make you feel better? Geez.

Sanity was certainly not one of the things I voted for you for. -_-

An awful lot of severe overthinking in this thread.

Which is an awful lot better than severe underthinking.

No, I think you're doing that all by yourself.

So... as you are familiar, as you say, with the internet, then presumably you know what a 'sockpuppet' or a 'sock' means in the context of the internet?

This sounds really shallow of me to ask, but why do I get the feel that it's easier for homosexuals to hook up with people than it is for straights?  Given the general (albeit evolving) attitude in the United States on homosexuality, I'd expect the complete opposite to be the case.

You must be joking.  Women are the brakes and men the accelerator pedal when it comes to the Automobile of Love, Scotty, my boy.
Maybe women are the brakes because you are the wall.

Businesses have no incentive to go to France. Manufacturing is declining, and France is reentering recession while the rest of the world recovers. Giving the workers more power will do nothing but hurt businesses, and the French economy as a whole.

Boohoo, poor businesses. Cry

I'm sure those Goodyear workers will do just fine crafting artisanal tires once their employer finally closes the factory.
