Congratulations, Mint gets a prize!

(Well not really, because I told him).

Clearly the problems with the Soviet Union were not the absence of any sort of democracy or the total lack of basic freedoms or the arbitrary judicial system or the failure of the system to fulfill the promises that it made. No, the problem with the Soviet Union was that it promised free healthcare and generous pensions.

Write in Thad McCotter or Obama or something funny. Jimmy McMillian perhaps?

Yeah, or some other joke of a candidate, like Ron Paul perhaps.

This is what happens when you have a few beers before getting on here. I apologize, folks. I stepped a bit too far with this one.

actually, from my experience, employers serve alcohol at parties only to find out who the real arseholes are in the company and target them for firing - in other words, alcohol doesn't change your personality, alcohol amplifies it.

So, you can apologize all you want, but now we know how you really think.

To CARLHAYDEN. The last line is the best part:

I mean, I'm not offended, but the whole point of this thread is to show that your opinion doesn't really matter. You and lots of old people don't recognize same-sex marriage, that's fine. Young people overwhelmingly do. The laws will change to reflect that, the process has already started. No one disputes that more people oppose same-sex marriage that the polling booth than in polls, but even then it will fall below 50%, and before that point, it will be resolved in legislatures and courts elsewhere. All the apostrophes in the world won't win this battle for you, any more than you've singlehandedly blocked the border with a wall of flaming outrage.

it's interesting how this episode has seemed to become a PR positive for Mikado.  not because of the faction that will agree with the sentiment of his message, but because of his willingness to 'apologize', how 'gutsy' this is, how he only had a human moment, as we all do, and etc.

Interesting how you continue to feed into his original point. You knew that already though...

Easily the best non-North American, non-Brit hard rock band.

(I added the "North" part to American because one could make a damn good case for Rush, even though I'm less of a fan)

I can't stand Rush because the vocals are soooooooooooo bad, and their fans are usually such douchebags. In fact I think this sums up the typical Rush fan pretty well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eubi9YI2dKE

That's actually hilarious considering the sh**t you listen to.

Nathan's one of the best new posters we've had in years.

I'd hate to disappoint you with my sobriety, but you are now admitting that you are in fact a reactionary?

I'm admitting, entirely freely and with the indescribable joy of somebody who has suddenly attained a greater state of understanding of the world than he previously had due to the tender mercies of exposure another human being's inarticulate insanity in its purest form, that I'm what you mistakenly define as a reactionary without having anything remotely resembling a sense of what that term actually means in the usage of people who weren't dropped as a baby.

Are you people still trying to have a serious conversation with Boob?
Haven't you anything more productive to do with your time, like mowing your lawn, smoking pot or trying to lick your elbow?

I'm really hoping he gives up his religion anyway.

You're hoping he renounces his undying faith and eternal love in you?

I saw Rick Santorum on a show in some guys basement once. The studio audience consisted of Keystone Phill and a bunch of stuffed animals. And besides that, at least our cult is sucessfull Wink

You know, Paul's lost his share of elections too. 1974 and 1976 House, 1984 Senate primary, 1988 President, 2008 President primary... Heck, Paul lost to a Robert Casey too. Paul is 9/14 (64.3%) in his "final" elections for a seat before this year. Santorum is 4/5 (80%) in such races, which would have been higher if he would have stayed in the House like Paul.

Wormyguy fails once again.

I hardly think Attlee was judge, jury and prosecutor in this trial you know.
... and he wasn't Prime Minister either.

Wow, Gully actually got a good one:

I was unaware that fascism was considered center-right. Thank you for informing me.

Considering that Jobbik is not in the coalition, I'd still call it center-right.

J.J. does the absence of logic in your posts sometimes irritate you. I mean I understand the desire to be illogical, but does it ever irritate you?

So much for Osbourne's spending cuts stimulating the British economy. Tongue

Because that recipe worked sooooo well everywhere else. Roll Eyes

And so well during the Great Depression.

I decided I'm not going to watch the Cowboys/Giants game tonight.  I don't want to see the Cowboys get throttled tonight.  I'm watching the Dallas Mavericks vs. Minnesota Timberwolves on NBA League Pass instead.

Good Choice.

I thought so, too, as I did peek in on the score on ESPN.com every so often.

Bushie, I see your sports loyalties are as rock solid as your political ones.

I said no, in context, but the real answer is "yes, both should be zero."

People should not be penalized for gaining or maintaining wealth.

It's really quite remarkable, given how mind-numbingly stupid that point is, that you are able to type. Or, you know, that you've avoided dying in a freak accident involving a bath, a toaster and a bar of soap.

Don't visit this part of the forum often at all and today was the first time I've ever posted here.  But I have to say the title and intent of this thread made me laugh out loud.  Nice job.  Looks like I have some work to do here reading all these posts.

Your return to the forum is welcome in the way that the repeated return of the Black Death was to the inhabitants of fourteenth century Europe.

Why? Because of what you are. And what is that? Kent knows better than anyone:

"A knave, a rascal, an eater of broken meats, a base, proud, shallow, beggarly, three-suited hundred-pound, filthy worsted-stocking knave, a lily-livered, action-taking, whoreson glass-gazing super-serviceable finical rogue, one trunk-inheriting slave, one that wouldst be a bawd in way of good service, and art nothing but the composition of knave, beggar, coward, pandar, and the son and heir of a mongrel bitch, one whom I will beat into clamorous whining, if thou deni'st the least syllable of thy addition."

Get out.

What on earth caused this... no, deserved this outburst?  I'm in tears over here.  You guys have been busy.

Look at what Mussolini and Hitler did during their primes. Their major support bases were labor unions.

...

...

...

Do you know who some of the first victims of the Nazi regime were? It's not hard to find out, so I think you should do that.

People like you disgust me. Nasty little pricks who abuse history - and defame the victims of fascist dictatorships - in order to justify their pathetic, pallid and utterly hollow political beliefs. It's far too common amongst the more moronic tendencies within the American Right, of which you are a particularly stupid example. I don't care if you're a ten year old with the intelligence of a brain-damaged chicken; there is simply no excuse for this sort of behavior.

Again?!  It starts awful and abusive and only improves from there.  I thought I lived a retched existence of loathing and vitriol but apparently my life is charmed in comparison.  This guy is a national treasure... unfortunately it's not a treasure that belongs to my nation. Sad
