does anyone know anything about this district? I remember hearing somewhere that it used to go from Mesa to downtown Phoenix. Every ten years the district would contract in size as all the democratic precincts in the western part of the district was continually removed. By 2000 the district, which gave Bush 65% in 1988, was only a 51% Bush district and becoming somewhat marginal. Does anyone know why it was virtually destroyed? It was basically dissolved between the 4th, 5th, and 6th districts.

If it was 51% for Bush II, my guess would be that it didn't help for incumbent protection.
