Extra Bonus Quote of the Day

"He doesn't understand how enhanced interrogation works."

-- Rick Santorum, in an interview with Hugh Hewitt, on Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) arguing that there's no evidence "enhanced interrogation" led to the killing of Osama bin Laden.

McCain, of course, was tortured while held prisoner during the Vietnam war.

Santorum is to the real world what Derek was to the forum.

I'm starting to suspect that too much masturbation damaged his brain when he was young.

If I was a relative of McCain's, I might pull a Brooks.

Santorum thinks he should explain torture to John McCain? Good God, he's more of a fool that previously seemed possible. Definitely the most odious guy in the race.

I finally figured it out: Santorum knows more about torture because, as a Christian, he is heavily persecuted in the United States.

Sometimes, just listening to what Santorum has to say is torture in itself.

How unfortunate that this frothing sample of Santorum has leaked out.  It's gonna be really tough for him to clean up this mess before it creates a lingering stink.

A quick lesson for people as amoral or dimwitted as Rick Sanctimonious:

Think of the stock characters of interrogators of either Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union who threaten someone who knows something that the tormenter's intelligence service wants to know. The stock line (it sounds the same in Germanized or Russianized English, as both German and Russian de-voice final consonants and approximate a W with a V) is said like this:

"VEE HAFF VAYS TO MAKE YOU TALK"

It works to get people to say whatever the tormenter wants to hear. Because those who might be captured aren't told everything that the Enemy might want to know, the captured wretch might break down and tell what he knows falsely or make up a story (as in "My commanding officer is Santa Claus"). Sometimes the torturer is able to get false confessions such as that a heretical priest in Inquisition-era Spain confesses to worshiping Mohammed as God or having a Seder with fellow witches... never mind that such a confession is absurd, it could be good for burning at the stake. For good reason, our Founding Fathers rejected torture as political process. Our system finds people willing to talk -- such as the victim of a rapist -- instead of trying to beat a confession out of someone accused.

Torture is good at most for getting knowledge only from a fresh captive who obviously is getting no new information from his side while captured. But even a 'high-value' captive such as a high-ranking officer or someone high in the hierarchy of a heretical organization eventually has little to offer.

Osama bin Laden was killed because of American operatives who did good, conventional police work (surveillance) and intelligence work (analysis of data) before the Great Terrorist got his early-morning meeting with Navy SEALS. One need not even approach a subject of surveillance to get useful and decisive information.  What is good for catching a clever and sophisticated murderer (Scott Peterson in California) is good for nailing Osama bin Laden, who now gets to experience the most exquisite tortures possible -- in Hell.

I completely agree. Perhaps none at all?

Great reply. No one knows who Santorum is and it should stay that way. What a joke of a candidate.

I'm pretty sure his parents didn't allow him to keep a dog.

Yes, it is rather sad that Santorum felt the need to engage in an ad hominem attack against McCain's wartime experiences.

Like Rep. Debbie Wassermann-Schultz (D-FL) calling Osama bin Laden a "snake"?

Soil yourself with bad deeds and you deserve the indignity of being called for it.
