Appreciate all the caring comments and well wishes. And BushOklahoma's prayers as well (certainly can't hurt) Smiley

My night has been cut short, I'm afraid. It's 5:44 am and I've only now been able to stop a new nosebleed that messed up pretty much everything in my bed, actually...and worst of all, woke me at about 5. Oh well, sleep is overrated.

The nosebleeds are seriously bothering me (and I speculate that loss of blood or something to do with blood pressure or something of that sort led to my collapse yesterday), but I have no idea what's causing them. I did notice they had only been around since I started taking Ibuprofen for 2 nights for flu symptoms, but I haven't had one since Saturday evening. Maybe it's just a coincidence, though. Anyone hear have any ideas what could be causing nosebleeds? I've had maybe 6 since Saturday. The hospital is not very good at actually giving me information. The nurses tell me to wait for the doctor, who should come by some time today...wonder if the private station might have been better after all Smiley

We shall see. Thanks again for all the kind words.

Demand answers, assert your medical rights (if they exist in Germany), especially your right to information. It is your health and your body we are talking about here.

In your position I would also be demanding a time certain of the doctors arrival.

With my luck, these suggestions being tried in Germany will probably end up getting him thrown in a gutter somewhere to bleed to death.

Praying for you, Franzl.  Its good to hear you're starting to feel better, but yeah, do everything the doctor recommends.  You don't want to have another one.

Is Jesus gonna make Franzy all better Uncle Bushie?

Don't do this.  We all deal with these things in our own way, this is neither the time nor the place to get into an argument about the effectiveness of prayer.

Anyway, Franzl, take care of yourself and get better.  You'll be up and at that barbaric warm beer in no time at all.

Hmm, I first thought that you had an epileptic seizure when I read the title ... Sad

I also had sudden nose bleeds a couple years ago but that had to do with dry air in office rooms with no air conditioning.

It can also be that you have high blood pressure or it comes from big stress.

I think it's best to chill out a couple days now and drink a lot of water.

What did the hospital people say about your condition ?

Well, anyway I hope you'll get better soon Smiley

I've been granted parole under the condition that I immediately see a nose/throat specialist to see what's causing the bleeding. Doctors found nothing out of the ordinary in my blood work to suggest any further collapse. Think it might have been too much stress (dunno what from, lol), too little to eat and drink in the last several days, which is possible, since I've had a rather bad cold/flu for a week or so now.

They're having me freed after lunch in a coupke of hours. No word about a parole officer yet.

Why are you in prison ? Did I miss anything in the last few days/weeks ?

Huh

It sounds like you were woken up at 5:00 am because of a nosebleed in a hospital.  Usually, at hospitals in America, you're up at 5:00 am with nurses poking and proding all over trying to get "breakfast" (aka blood work).  I've never been hospitalized overnight, myself, other than my first 10 days of life, but from what other's have told me the nursing staff are like blood-sucking parasites that leave you alone at 10-11 pm, wake you up every four hours to poke more until time to get up at 5:00 wanting more blood and then all throughout the day.

I can see why you feel like you've just been released from the penitentiary.

Nose bleeds do often come in pairs, I think. Once a vein is open it'll continue to be vulnerable for some amount of time. Or at least, that's my experience with them.

Sorry to hear that; hope things work out alright. Do whatever the doctors (or whatever) tell you to do; that's important.

I sometimes refer to that unfortunate episode a few years ago as my time 'inside' Grin

Yeah, for sure, because at home the odds are better that you can actually rest without the blood-sucking mosquitos on you every four hours.

I complain about them too...but I'm glad they're there...

At any rate, I think I can say nothing serious is wrong with me. The blood tests and various other things they did to me (e.g. heart ultrasound) didn't turn up any irregularities. I don't think they really know what caused my collapse, but they're suggesting it could be a combination of the constant nosebleeding, lack of rest, and poor nutrition in the last several days, and supposedly the stress associated with it all.

Nothing found indicates that a repeat is likely.

Other than that, have to see an ear/nose/throat specialist tomorrow about the bleeding (which hasn't happened since my post at 5am again). And I'm getting antibiotics for a bacterial infection in my throat (apparently that's my "flu".)

Thanks to everyone for your well wishes. Much appreciated. Directly after my passing out yesterday, I was quite distressed. Guess I'm not used to medical problems...so many are less fortunate than I.

I know what you mean, they're pests, but they are necessary pests.  I say this when I have many friends from high school who are nurses.  God bless each one of them.

Anyway, I'm glad you're feeling better and that there seems to be no warning signs of a relapse.  Take it easy the next few days, will you, bro?

Yeah, they can be very distressing when you normally don't have any problems. I had a blood test recently (2-3 months ago) with some freak results (IIRC I had next to no platelets in my blood), resulting in a panicky phonecall from my GP and me having to take another blood test on the Urgencies ward. In the end all that came up was that my previous blood test had been screwed up, but I'll remember those 2 or 3 hours in a hospital bed waiting for the results as some of the longest of my life.

Hail Caezure. But seriously. I'm glad to hear that you are alright. If I started randomly bleeding out of holes in my head - even holes I'm supposed to have - I would not be nearly as calm as you.

Damn, hope you're doing okay Franz.

Sounds like it was probably the ibuprofin causing the nose bleeds; it can keep your blood thinned for a good while after you stop taking it (and thinner blood bleeds much more easily).
