The fact that our Irish posters don't talk like that in the present day is a huge disappointment.

September 1921

Typical poster: Remember Teddy's cousin who didn't help out the Democratic ticket last year? It lost his home state of New York by 40 points. Anyways, word is that he's a cripple for life, in case we needed any more proof that his political career was dead.

1936:

Politico: Alf Landon will be President by January.

Typical poster: Dude, you're pathetic.

Politico: Not as pathetic as FDR handling the economy.

Sometime in 1856:

Topic: Thoughts/Opinions on the Republican Party:

BRTD:
FF!  I hope they free all the slaves and arm them so they can kill the evil whitey masters!  Huu!  Yeah!
Wormyguy: HPs.  I wonder if the preceding poster approves of statism and murder, because that is what the Republican Party stands for.  This is nothing more than the usual pro-elitist filth that has been trying to destroy our small government system since the beginning of the nation.
ChairmanSanchez: I like them for opposing slavery but I don't agree with them being against State's Rights.
Oakvale: I'm sorry?  What?  Are you trying to be an ironic mixture of abolitionist and federalist moderate hero?
Mechaman: Who the hell are the Republicans?  All I see on my ballot is "James Douchebag Buchanan" and "Mallard Moderate Hero Fillmore".
JoeRepublic: (looks at Red TX avatar) Oh.......right.  Well, you know that slavery thing.......

Hi,

I decided to promote Nym to MoAdmin. From now on, outside of being able, like other moderators, to order the posters, that are breaking Terms of Service, to suffer time in dungeon, stocks or having their hands cut off, he'll be empowered to hand over death sentences as well.

I hope you'll find this new improvement useful Smiley

Dave (ca. 1260).

Can't let this fall to the end and get deleted. Ernest had a good entry for J. J. in the 1861 thread:

(As an aside, if J.J. were to post here, which I doubt he will, my words in his mouth would be: Cotton up today ½ cent to 32¼ cents a pound today, more than triple what it was last year.  The deluge is here!)

1936:

J.J: It is statically impossible for Landon to lose, as the latest Literary Digest poll clearly demonstrates.  Also be sure to add 3% to Landon and subtract 3% from Roosevelt in any Gallup polls, they have a well-established Democratic bias.

What about names that refer to something that hasn't existed yet, like mine or Alfred.

Well, yours has existed since around WWII. Mine's been around since 1776 1783 2008-ish, but the forum's been around for about 10 years.

1856

Oldiesfreak:  I think I like this new Republican party and I am planning to vote for them.  I am not sure what to think of Mr. Fremont as he appears to be quite the radical, while I am a true conservative, but I deeply believe in the end of slavery.

1864

Oldiesfreak:  I am not sure why President Lincoln would choose a Democrat, and a Southern one at that as his running mate.  I must admit I deeply hate the Democratic party.  They are without a doubt the party of slavery and I will believe that for as long as I live.

1876

Oldiesfreak:  It sickens me that so many of my brothers would vote for the party of slavery, but thankfully Mr. Hayes was able to prevail due to the wisdom of our Founding Fathers and the electoral college.

1884

Oldiesfreak:  The end of the Union as we know it.  I cannot believe how quickly my brothers have forgotten that the party of slavery once divided this great nation into two.

1944
Oldiesfreak:  Four more years of the party of slavery?  That's it.  I'm moving to Vermont, the last bastion of Republicanism!

1948
HTMLDon:  Our party is dead.  Horrible candidates, horrible ideas and horrible campaigns.  If we can't win now, I don't think we will ever win.  In 1952 there will be no Republican party.

1952
Oldiesfreak (R-VT): As a conservative Republican I remain loyal to Senator Taft, but I think we need both conservatives and liberals in our party.  I think this is our time.  The reign of the party of slavery is over.

1964
Oldiesfreak (R-VT):  I cannot believe how naive people can be.  Whether you like it or not Lief, the Democrats remain the party of slavery.

1970
Oldiesfreak (R-VT):  This southern strategy that you speak of Lief is actually a brilliant idea.  The country is changing and despite my deep hatred for anything Southern, I will gladly accept them to the GOP (please don't call us the GOP party!).  I believe those of you who accuse us of racism are misled.  The Democrats remain the party of slavery and that will never change.

Landslide Lyndon:  umm... there's this thing called the Civil Rights Act.  And then we have the southern strategy.  Sometimes I feel I'm surrounded by idiots.

1982
Keystone Phil: Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssss!!!!!!!!!1

Lief:  Uhhh no

2008

Oldiesfreak:  Sorry Democrats.  You're still the party of slavery.

JJ in 1936: I am looking closely at The Literary Digest poll's results. Landon should win, but the question is whether or not his win signals a realignment.
