Herman Cain will eventually become the Anti-Romney and win both Iowa and South Carolina.  Romney takes New Hampshire and Nevada.

We already have an anti-Romney. Dr. Ron Paul.

I don't think Cain will have enough support to become the strongest "Anti-Romney" candidate. Every candidate will be bashing Romney to pieces in an effort to diminish his lead and destroy his credibility. What makes Cain the best candidate to do this?

Cain is a brazen man, yet has a platform that is very favorable to the base.  He is very similar to the rise of Mike Huckabee in 2008 and Howard Dean in 2004.  I think Romney will win the nomination, but Cain will become a surprise hit.

This is certainly possible.  As I mentioned earlier, if Cain manages to pick up Huckabee's endorsed he has a very real shot.

Huckabee would endorse an African-American?

The anti-Romney needs to be able to win an election.

As to the prediction, it's plausible. Especially if Huck endorses Cain. Cain 2012 = Huck 2008.

You think he wouldn't?  Huckabee isn't really the "racist" type.  That said, my expectation is that he'll keep his powder dry until a month before Iowa, then endorse the strongest candidate that isn't Romney.

I was being sarcastic, but he would probably endorse Bachmann over Cain.

A Huckabee endorsement might influence my decision.

I agree with the OP. I've been thinking for a while now Herman Cain may end up coming out of nowhere just like Huck did in 08.

I don't think he's going to get far...but I could be wrong. He's better than Santorum and Bachmann thats for sure. He's worth keeping an eye on regardless.

The way things are going New Hampshire might have had their primary a few weeks ago.

FTR, I bet on Cain back in April, before he Got Big at that first debate.

FTR, I bet on Cain back in April, before he Got Big at that first debate.

Is that when our fateful bet was made?  I can't tolerate how slow the search function is here so I gave up on it.

Of course, a two-man race between Romney and Cain is mutually beneficial.  Romney is presumably content to have Cain squeeze Perry (and Gingrich) from the race before imploding himself (I doubt we'd see Romney attack Cain before late January if not later) and Cain is very probably content to become a conservative hero who doesn't get nominated.  But everyone else will probably lay into Cain tomorrow night.  Huntsman would focus on hurting Romney and his throwing away one of his few remaining chances to do so in front of a national audience tomorrow night strikes me as one of the bigger strategy blunders of the cycle so far.
