The BZÖ seems to me like a moderate version of the FPÖ so they should, if there's no future for them as an independent party, be incorporated into the ÖVP. That could give the ÖVP a boost and maybe slow down the rise of the FPÖ.

I don't see what the ÖVP has to gain from a merger with BZÖ. I have a feeling most BZÖ supporters would be more likly to support FPÖ than ÖVP with BZÖ in them, and it might scare of some of the ÖVP voters that aren't too keen on the BZÖ either, no?

I think the subtext says something like "The Action Community lies to the faces of the students"

I think the subtext says something like "The Action Community lies to the faces of the students"

There are student body elections this year in Austria in every university. They are held every 2 years.

There are several groups representing students such as:

Aktions-Gemeinschaft (AG) - the ÖVP student organisation
Grüne & Alternative StudentInnen (GRAS) - the Green Party student organisation
Verband Sozialistischer StudentInnen Österreichs (VSStÖ) - the SPÖ student organisation
Ring Freiheitlicher Studenten (RFS) - the FPÖ student organisation
Kommunistischer StudentInnenverband (KSV) - the KPÖ student organisation
Liberales Studentinnen und Studenten Forum (LSF) - the LIF student organisation

And a couple of independent groups such as:

Unabhängige Fachschaftslisten Österreichs (FLÖ)
Fraktion engagierter Studierender (FEST)

In the last student elections in 2009, the seats were as followed:

22 AG
16 FLÖ
15 GRAS
12 FEST
  8 VSStÖ
  2 KSV
  1 RFS
  9 Independents

When it comes to the poster you posted, it is probably from the Leftist Student Groups like GRAS or VSStÖ, because they want to tie the AG to measures of former ÖVP-Interior Minister Maria Fekter, who was a hardliner when it came to deporting foreigners and asylum seekers and that is not really popular with left-wing students. By tying Fekter to the AG, the left-wingers hope to break the AG plurality in the elections this year.

The text means:

Aktions-Gemeinschaft (AG) = ÖVP = Deportation

The AG is a slap in the face of students (in terms of lies) !

It's quite counter-inutitive, to say least.

It's not as uncommon as one might think, though. I'm pretty sure young voters are a relatively strong NPD demographic in Saxony, for example. (And I suppose most of East Germany)

It's the same with Sweden Democrats in Sweden. In our equivalent of this (a sort of high-school vote) they received 25% like 5 years ago, while they were polling at 2-3% nationally.

That's unfortunate. Are the Swedish Democrats more of a far-right populist group like the FPÖ in Austria.....or more openly racist skinheads like the NDP...or to a lesser extent the BNP in Britain?

It sprung out of an openly Nazi movement called "Keep Sweden Swedish" which wore brown uniforms and the whole shebang. But they've been moving away from it during the last 10-15 years and the old radicals have labelled them sell-outs and moved on to new parties (most notably the so-called the National Democrats).

Today, it's pretty lame compared to xenophobic parties in other countries. Their main line is to reduce immigration to the level  of other Western European countries (Sweden has a very high rate) and promote Swedish traditions.

Not at the University of Salzburg:

32% GRAS
26% AG
22% VSStÖ
11% PLUSS
  3% KSV
  3% JULIS
  3% RFS

57% for the Leftists, 29% for the Neo-Liberals, 11% for the Independents and 3% for the Nazis.
