For the Dems to watch out: Russ Feingold, Deval Patrick, Brian Schweitzer, John Lynch, Tom Kaine and Andrew Cuomo.
For the Republicans: Bobby Jindal, Chris Christie, Jeb Bush, Paul Ryan and Rand Paul. Maybe Mike Huckabee though I'm not sure about his chances of winning in 2016.

John Hickenlooper, Martin O'Malley, or Amy Klobuchar could also run.

And Mrs. Sebelius. I think that she can be Obama's name. Tammy Baldwin is also another possibility, if she gets Senate chair in Wisconsin.

I think he'd have just about as good a chance as anybody in the prospective Democratic field (which is looking rather weak, BTW).

I wouldnt say it is weak... The democrats have a litany of qualified candidates who could easily keep the presidency in the left column, especially if the republicans contunue their swing to the FARRRRRRRRR right.

It would hurt Gore in 2016 when people look at him and say "wow, he ran in 1988,2000, and again today?"..wont look good. Dick Gephardt 2.0

America is not ready for a lesbian in the White House.
Honestly, I think the Democratic field is weak going into 2016. If Obama knew he'd easily win on Election Day, I'm sure he would have chosen someone much younger who would have huge name recognition and could easily run to replace him in 2016, someone like Warner, Bayh, or Kaine.

For the GOP, I see only Jindal and Christie as the big names on (Pence will be a half-termer in 2015) NHI's list. No 2010er is going to run. Maybe Pawlenty runs again.
Dems: I agree with that list minus Hillary and Cuomo.

Just out of curiosity why don't you think that Cuomo run? I mean I don't know if he will run or not, but what makes you think than he wouldn't be a candidate in 2012?

I wouldn't automatically designate a Cuomo as someone with national ambitions, plus he'd be a one-termer.

I would think it would be good to get a democrat from a red state to run so he could win more crossover votes. Here are democratic senators from states McCain won
Ben Nelson (depends on if he wins in 2012 and would be too old by 2016 anyways)
Tim Johnson - will be 69 in 2016, which is borderline. He also had a heart attack awhile back.
Max Baucus - will be 75 in 2016, so probably no
Jon Tester - depends if he wins in 2012
Claire McCaskill - see Tester
Mary Landrieu - depends if she wins in 2014. Also depends if she stops whoring for the oil industry
Mark Begich - depends if he wins in 2014, as his victory was seen as a fluke
Mark Pryor - basically Bill Clinton 2.0

All of those are too old, and it remains to be seen whether Begich and especially Landrieu survive 2014.
Pryor: Too New Dem-ish for the base, unless the Democrats take a significant intraparty turn to the right during Obama's second term.

FDR was a one-termer. So was Bush Jr (okay, bad example), and JFK was a one-termer in the senate.

Tester, Begich and Pryor are all relatively young, and McCaskill would be 63 IIRC, which is a bit old but acceptable for the average person.

This thread is only interesting if you assume the President wins in 2012.
I largely agree with most of the names mentioned though. Wonder who will actually run.
