Lots of celebrities have been hacked and had their personal photos posted on Twitter, I'm sure that's what happened here. We know that a lot of people do not like Weiner, so there's clearly motivation for someone to do that.

Um, far more people accidentally post private messages publicly on Twitter every day than are hacked. How is "lots of people are hacked" sufficient to dismiss everything here?  That's absurd

Anyway, back to the issue at hand

http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0611/Weiner_show_alarms_Democrats.html

Anthony Weiner has never been a favorite of Nancy Pelosi's, and the Democratic leadership is, I'm told, not thrilled with a media blitz this afternoon that has dominated the news without answering questions about the notorious Weiner tweet.

"Watching Anthony Weiner's twitter and press blitz is like watching a Charlie Sheen meltdown. It's amusing, uncomfortable, and not necessary," a Democratic leadership aide (not from Pelosi's office) told me just now. "If Weiner really wants to get beyond this, he'll shut up and let Democrats get back to their Medicare message."

Take it down a notch, there's no need to get combative, I didn't say to just dismiss everything, I was saying that a lot of people are hacked and that it is not something that has never ever happened. This whole thing is really not that serious, anyway.

If Vitter can actually push the legal limit, then Weiner will be fine, partisanship can protect people some times. There are plenty of other issues we should have with members of Congress, I'd be surprised if there weren't more than a few lying about more serious issues.

Seriously, why is this even an issue? Nothing illegal was done, the whole thing is just proof that people are far too obsessed with scandal and such. The world is gossip obsessed, even on a political forum.

Meanwhile, a GOP Congressman (and Senate candidate) in Missouri may have actually broken the law by voting in a precinct he didn't live in (voter fraud), yet no one is debating the specifics of that and if any laws or ethics were violated. Not trying to change the subject, just saying that what could be actual law breaking is not being discussed.

My only question is this: Why was he busy sending random genitalia pics to chubby undergrads and has-been porn stars when he's got that hot, and evidently intelligent, piece in the bedroom that he should be plowing with regularity?

It seems like Democrats have this innate desire to cheat down, much in the same way that Republicans have the innate desire to cheat gay.

Some people love to show themselves and get compliments, it's an ego thing.

If he were under 18, he would be charged with child porn and be registered a sex offender. Roll Eyes Funny how being older and having a cushy congressional job is like a get out of jail free card.

Not really relevant, it's not like he would have been in legal trouble had he not been a Congressman.

If his wife is pregnant, that's good reason for the media and others to stop harping on it. I don't care for certain politicians, but I really wouldn't want to see anyone personally destroyed from anything like this. Rather he leaves office or not, it really needs to be be dropped, the Medicare debate is far more important.

Of course.  We must stop discussing of Weinergate "for the children."  It's always "for the children" - the argument of that's the last refuge for a scoundrel like Weiner, I mean.

You know how Weiner can make Weinergate go away for good?  Resign and get out of the spotlight.

Here it goes, without fail. I was mainly talking about the media, who keeps harping on it like it's such a big deal. It may be the center of your universe, but it isn't to everyone. Even if it was a Republican, I'd say the same thing.

"The media" doesn't have to stop talking about a story because someone is pregnant.  The tabloid media like TMZ that are now on the story will actually eat this up even more.  Pregnant celebs sell.

The media is supposedly harping on Weinergate as a big deal because, well, it is a big deal.  The guy brazenly lied about sending the original photo, tried to shame anyone who dared ask him the simplest of questions, and tried to spin the whole thing as a hacking done by his political opponents.  Oh, and it's about sex and infidelity - which the media laps up.  Weiner's sheer arrogance and chutzpah puts him in a category all his own when it comes to political scandals.

I have my opinion about it, so I'll leave it at that.

Bill Clinton cheated and lied.  The US of A then proceeded to have the best 8 years of my lifetime.  W Bush was elected to "restore honor" to the White House.  We then had the the worst eight years of my lifetime.

I don't condone what Clinton did but resignation?  Do you think Bush should have resigned after totally botching the call on the Iraq War?

Clinton lies... an intern gets f-cked.
Bush lies... we all get f-cked.

Its time to get out of our politicians personal lives unless they are in ours.

Political malpractice and deliberate malpractice at that certainly warrant more of a reaction than they got. Corruption is hardly ever taken serious, but as soon as personal drama emerges, it's a different story.

The odds of the GOP winning this seat are low, the Democrats are very good at picking special election candidates and Republicans are not. Besides, with the Medicare thing, a D+5 seat is out of reach for any Republican.
