Maine passed a Proposition 8-style referendumb the year after California did. Has there been a lawsuit yet? If not, why not? There needs to be.

It was a constitutionally legal citizens' veto. Not much of a case to be had, unfortunately.

But the legislature had already voted on it. You don't get to vote to take away somebody's rights. The whole idea of inalienable rights is that they can't be voted away.

I'm sorry... what do you want me to tell you? Kentucky and Maryland also allow legislation that was passed and signed by the governor to be put up as referendum as well. And what if there was a lawsuit? It probably wouldn't be heard at the State Supreme Court, and if it were filed in federal court, it'd be the same exact arguments as the Prop 8 trial, only they'd be weaker, and the lawyers wouldn't be as strong as Olsen and Boies. A waste of time.

The difference with Kentucky (and many other states) is that the legislature didn't recognize these rights beforehand. But in Maine they did. What happened in Maine is almost identical to what happened in California.

It is different. In California, same-sex couples were able to get married for what, seven months before being barred again? Maine couples never had that luxury.
I'm not gonna argue with you, I agree that it sucks. But a lawsuit in Maine would be a waste of time. The Olsen and Boies lawsuit will go farther, and they're far more competent lawyers than anyone can recruit.
