I admit that at first look I didn't recognize it's Dick Cheney.

We also didn't see him so often by the second term, he kind of disappeared from the public consciousness. The picture in my head of Cheney is how he looked in 2004, didn't realize he had lost weight.

Er, Im sure the Docs probably say he is much healthier, but I generally think when an older man loses weight like that they look gaunt and sickly.

It might be more honest and less cruel to hope for a speedy end. I mean, that's pretty much his reanimated corpse that's being paraded around there (even though with intact sense of self). "Stay well"? He isn't well.

One can't really comment here, obviously.  I don't think any opinion that you all could imagine I might have would be permissible.

Sad to see a man like this. A few years ago, right before my Grandpa passed away, he looked very similar. The end is near for Cheney, and while I didnt really care for him as VP, I hold no personal ill towards him.

Aside from some vague facial features, he just looks like another old man. I really wouldn't have guessed that this was Cheney.

I've occasionally wondered about that. Is he still alive?

I thought he was ill and lost a lot of weight after an operation. If that's the case, he clearly hasn't gained the weight back.

Yes. In a purely vegetative state for 5 1/2 years, with zilch chance of recovery. But someone would actually have to turn a switch to end the sad spectacle, and that obviously (and understandably) is not done.

Don't get me wrong. Cheney's condition is not comparable. I was just blowing off at "stay well" when the man is obviously dying. Yet getting an extra year or three to live when you "should" have died, as long as you're conscious and not in constant excruciating pain, is obviously a major gift that you've been given, to be used wisely. Though that entails understanding that it's but a year or three. That's what my grandfather got (the first one to die, in 2001), and that's what I would ideally want for myself, too. Even though it was spooky to receive the bereavement card, addressed in his own handwriting.
