Not necessarily. I know some people who can't read well but hold down $70,000 salaries.

Why should the unemployed not be able to vote? The second one is pretty much already required, and if it isn't, they are either voting randomly (that doesn't really benefit anyone) or dedicated enough to learn which is which and thus should be able to vote anyway.

What does knowing who was the first U.S. President have anything to do with voting?

Knowledge of that certain fact is not an indicator of intelligence. It is an indicator of knowing the first president. Holding political knowledge is not a voting requirement. And someone could be perfectly informed, in theory, without knowing the answer.

This sounds like an attempt to supress the vote of the poor uneducated.

The poor uneducated shouldn't be voting. They don't contribute anything to government, and will 90% of the time just vote for welfare.

That is your opinion. They are Americans. They are people. Just because they are poor does not mean their opinions are invalid anymore than the middle-class's are for not wanting tax raises.

It is not your right do decide who votes and who doesn't.

Then they have no right to have their vote influence my life by seizing my property or infringing upon the economic liberties of the population.

If you have to do something like that, do something relevant. Such as, tell them to write or orally tell someone who or what issues they support and why. Nothing more than a paragraph. I don't support that, but if you have to do something, it's a lot more important than some historical fact.

BTW, why do all the Republicans support this and Democrats oppose it.

Yes they do. They're American citizens.

Why should you have a vote to do this to them?

Picking and chosing who gets to vote so we have a "father knows best" situation...hmm...sounds like a totalitarian regime.

Hey I hear there's this great speaker who we should choose to be our leader.  He's been exiled a few times, but he says really great things.  He knows who's really at fault for all of our problems: The Jews.
