Gabby Giffords manages to make a full recovery and runs for the Senate in 2014, although entering the race late and wins the seat defeating the Republican candidate.

Towards the end of her first term in 2020, she decides to challenge incumbent Republican President Christopher Christie. Unemployment is at 6.3% having jumped from 6.0% over fears a mini recession is near but President Christie is not overly popular with his approval ranging from 44-48%. His disapproval is consistently lower than his approval. Christie's Vice President, Marco Rubio remains on the ticket.

Senator Giffords chooses New York Governor Andrew Cuomo as her running mate. One of the focal points of her platform is fixing immigration which President Christie has "not done enough for."

I'd like to say Gabby wins, but I doubt that she would. Christie seems to be having an average presidency, and would probably win election.

Plus, almost 10 years later, people might not have such strong feeling about the Tucson shooting.

Christie wins.  Giffords' immigration proposals are a political miscalcuation, Christe has Hispanics because of Rubio.  Also, Cuomo is a horrible VP choice who brings nothing to the ticket--he's a cut-and-dry Democrat who comes from a state that is already in Giffords' column.
